comcast sees -- says that it sees a lot more opportunity than nbc universal now that they are familiarh the business. pointing to the fact that nbc's results are improving and that is beginning to retransmission fees for the nbc network and nbc sports has returned to profitability, that the theme parks are growing and that comcast sees continued strong performance at both the cable net wrorks and the film studio. comcast is also making some other announcements today, increasing its dividend by 20% to 78 cents. it's also pre-repurchasing $2 billion of stock in 2013. now, comcast earnings were due out tomorrow morning, but it has just released its quarterly and full-year results earlier than expected. now, the fourth-quarter earnings are coming in at 52 cents per share once you exclude certain one-time items. that's just a penny short of expectations, but it is 10.6% from last year. fourth-quarter revenue for comcast is coming in at 5.94 billion, up about 5.9% and pretty much in line with expectations. with comcast we pay attention to the subscriber numbers which came in better than expe

. >> susie: general electric is selling its remaining 49% stake in nbc universal to comcast for $16.7 billion. as part of the deal, comcast will also buy nbc's studios and offices at 30 rockefeller plaza as well as cnbc's headquarters in new jersey. it is possible that the big g.e. sign on the top of that building could be replaced with a comcast logo. the deal completes a sale process that was supposed to take several more years. now, for its part, comcast says the move reflects optimism about the future prospects of nbc universal. well, here at the big board, more green than red thanks to that powerful rally on wall street today. investors were encouraged by upbeat earnings from a variety of different companies. also, many investors are hopeful president obama's state of the union address will spell out ways to help the economy. several big financial stocks led the market higher, but there were also big moves in retail and telecom services. shares of barclays surged on its plans to eliminate several thousand jobs as part of a three-year turnaround effort. the u.k. bank also hopes to

comcast, the majority owners of nbc universal, have announced they are buying out ge's remaining share of 49% of the company, in addition to buying outright the ge real estate at our iconic 30 rock headquarters building in midtown manhattan. it's a big deal financially, $18.1 billion in all. it will end 27 years of either full or partial ge ownership of nbc. >>> and we received sad news late today that we have lost a member of our family. long-time viewers of "nbc nightly news" will instantly recognize tom aspell, a veteran foreign correspondent for nbc news. tom died yesterday after a two-year-long battle with lung cancer. starting as a cameraman back in 1971, later as a correspondent, tom covered it all, bosnia, chechnya, baghdad. he covered the fall of saigon, the fall of saddam, even the fall of the shah. when he wasn't displaying an intense brand of cool under fire, he loved his home on cyprus, loved being out on the water on his sailboat. he was a native new zealander, at home anywhere in the world really. and in that sense, a classic foreign correspondent. he leaves behind his w
