, signed a deal with nbc, worth $1.4 million to broadcast ncaa football.id in 1952. and so on. despite fuzzy commercials about athletes going pro and something other than sports, after graduation, the top priority for the ncaa has always been about money. universities make millions, the athletes get a standing ovation. case in point, after this play that got auburn to the national title game and millions of dollars in the bcs bowl, auburn coach gus malzan got a contract ex text worth $8.5 million and $250 each year after that. chris davis, the player who ran the ball back, he got a standing ovation in geology class. that's it. this could be changing. last month, a california judge ruled to partially certify a class action lawsuit against the ncaa. brought by former ucla star, ed obanin. the trial is set for next june and a possibility a judge could decide to grant college athletes nonprofit trade association status. and i say good. the ncaa could finally be on the hook for royalties from the jerseys, posters and video games they have ever sold off the back

there are 450,000 student athletes in the ncaa. and so once we apply a label like this to an entire group, the danger is that we're flipping the innocence on its head, and that's a very important part of the legal system. >> it's a delicate balance because we don't want to flip the presumption of innocence it's head, but we want to also bring into the discussion, the women who report these incidences, because there's this gigantic power structure that they're dealing with. >> and i can agree with you on, and we're going to take a take a couple of opposite sides. at the same time, what we're finding out in a lot of these cases, specifically with winston, the victim, the reporting person was treated as the suspect. she had the search warrant. her cellphone was gone through. her computer was gone through. winston didn't have any of that happen to him. and so what happens is, the victim then has to give so much information and so much evidence to prove beyond th beyond a reae doubt, where as soon as the athlete walks into the courtroom

the ncaa scholarship is only tuition, room and board, and books. these young men, because they cannot work a job even though they are compensated for those expenses, they need to get home, they need the ability to travel to and from. i would like to see it increase to the actual cost of attendance, which would add a little bit more to their scholarship, which would allow them some money to pick up incidentals, whether it be clothing or a need to get home because of an emergency. they would have a little bit of money at their disposal for those kinds of situations. but i'm not in favor of a monthly check. but i would like to see some incidentals, so if there is an emergency or a need for clothing, or transportation home for a needy situation, that they could do that. >> did you watch the auburn- alabama game over the weekend? football could be worth 100 thousand dollars if auburn wins the championship. ? >> it is 56 past the hour, which means bloomberg television is "on the markets." i'm alix steel. express shares are falling the most since last oct
