ncaa have statemented. don't see a lot of reasons not to do it. i haven't heard any compelling reasons other than if we change the status quo, it will destroy the system. and i understand that fear. i don't downplay that people have those fears, but i just downplay whether those fears are actually legitimate. i think if you think about any significant changes made to sports, people say that change will destroy the sport whether it's free agency in baseball, baseball's done fine with free agency. the other one we're on the cusp of right now for decades and decades people said the worst thing that could possibly happen in sports is if people gambled on sports. leagues are now embracing it. something that was taboo one day becomes a natural part of the system the next day, and i think this could be part of it. so i think more and more people are starting to recognize that. but this is not to suggest there won't be bobss -- obstacles, difficulties, problems to solve. but let's solve the problem. let's not just

you had very little issue in the firstrage book i did was about the 1966 ncaa championship game. an all-white kentucky team played in all black texas team. time, and i went through every newspaper in the country in researching this book, i do not think there was my mention -- one mention. it never came up in the run-up to the game, in the postmortem to the game. now we see that game is a pivotal moment in the history of emerging sports and the integration of college sports but at the time, the sports' department were seen the between department of his paper and culture. if everruck by that and these issues were going to get onto the sports' page, you would imagine it would be 1968 and they did at times. it was a minimum. i think in terms of activism with athletes and frank is right. if you look at the famous black power salute of john carlos and tommy smith, that ended up on the front pages of newspapers. not in the sports' section. we will get into it more later. the athletes were placed in a difficult position. there was a lot of pressure on athletes in general to speak out on
