zora neal hurston has brought us together as well. i know when i first read her, i didn't get her and i first read her in high school. i didn't get her and i do want to preface that the reason i wouldn't necessarily pair huckleberry finn. the dialect and understanding the brilliance that she was bringing. then to me it was not so i had to read her as an undergrad and ergraduate school to grow as a reader for the brilliance and inherent mess that was there and the inherent racism. that's what i had to do and it's not to totally dismiss the educational system because i recognize there is so much going on and i got a lot out of it but it's the education that you need tod understand someone like zora neal hurston and to be part of that legacy and see how much tracy has built up and has been eager to bring up a new story in the book to reenter the consciousness and like the past three or four years i don't think it h would have happened without a zora neal hurston book coming out of some sort so that is attributed to amistad and the legacy

it's been really a key for amistad to work with the zora neal hurston trust. we have a new book that is coming in january which is a collection of the essays which is called you don't know us negroes and other essays. so you might want to check it out. i see some people with a little bit of a smirk because it embodies the humor with a title like that and so i started out in publishing the year that amistad was formed which was 1987 and i started out at the feminist press and that is when charles harris, who is a genius so, you know, novella ford told me to make sure i told the stories so rather than give answers which is my norm so let me know if i go on too much. so, charles was an amazing man, he was the first to be hired in publishing and editorial and this was in the 1950s, believe it or not and then charles went on to work at doubleday, which is where he started and when he left to go to howard university, he left several books in which toni morrison who is rising in the random house family and took them over such as mohammed ali the greatest and i love t
