then what's up with nebraska? nebraska is red but with a spot. nebraska and maine are the only two states in the country where presidential candidates don't necessarily get all the electoral votes for the state. they don't win the whole state. those states, nebraska and maine, hand out their electoral votes district by district. even though john mccain won nebraska overall, in the congressional district where omaha is, barack obama won. and so obama/biden got one blue electoral vote there. that's the spot. of course the 2008 election was, as i've been saying, a blowout. the one electorate vote from nebraska did not matter. the one blue spot in nebraska was not a deciding thing. but in 2012, those economic headwinds president obama was talking about to that democratic audience last week, i mean, nobody knows for sure, but looks like because of those economic headwinds, it may very well be a much closer election in 2012. it may be a very hard fought election. and so that one democratic electoral vote from omaha, nebraska, obama was the first democr

in my case, the state of nebraska, and issues that are important to our nation. many times, those comments deal with what seems to be the constant regulatory assault on our nation's job creators. in meetings across nebraska -- and i did 15 town hall meetings in august -- the second and third questions i often get, if not the very first, concern the regulatory burden that our federal agencies are placing on our job creators. this administration has generated nothing short of a mountain of red tape, hundreds of new regulations. of these, at least 219 have been categorized as significant. what that means is that they will cost more than $100 million per year. $100 million taken out of our economy to finance regulation. the administration doesn't even dispute the mountain of red tape, nor does it dispute the size of the mountain that is created. in a letter from the president to speaker boehner, the white house identified seven regulations. on its agenda, each costing not not $100 million but at least least $1 billion per year. these costs take important capital out

the republican governor of nebraska is now asking president obama to deny a federal permit for an oil pipeline through his state. the proposed pipeline would link the tar sands fields of northern alberta, canada, to the oil refineries on the texas gulf coast. that's a lot of u.s. land they're going to have to cover. supporters say doing that will create tens of thousands of jobs, it will pump billions of dollars into the economy all without asking for anything from the taxpayers and meet up to 40% of american oil needs in the years to come, reducing our dependence on foreign oil. sounds good, right? well, the trouble is the pipeline would run directly across a crucial water source, and the worry is, among others, that if it breaks, it could endanger the u.s. food and water supply. hundreds of people gathere in kansas just on monday to express their thoughts and concerns. this has been going on, though, for weeks and months. take a listen to what happened in kansas on monday. >> it's a very, very good supply of oil, and we're getting it from a friendly neighbor as opposed to having to

federal investigators are combing the nebraska crash site where nine people were killed friday when a stunt plane crashed into a crowd of spectators. stunning new video taken by a spectator shows the tragedy as it happened. officials say they've already recovered key flight data and what could be an inflight video from the wreckage. nbc's jay gray has our report. >> reporter: as investigators continue sifting through the wreckage in reno, they've located clues that could ultimately help to explain the tragedy. >> there was a camera identified, video camera. fragments were found, memory cards have been identified. all of those will be going to the laboratory in d.c. to determine if they have any video images from the actual aircraft. >> ntsb officials hope to pull important evidence from an on board data recorder. >> the aircraft recording system recorded the data in two ways, on memory card but it's transmitted by telemetry to the crew. >> reporter: part of the tail section looks like it's missing which could have caused pilot jimmy leeward to lose control. >> shock. absolute shock. n
