and ceo of american majority ned ryan, and good to see all you guys. we'll get to that in a second. i think rudy giuliani has the background, the qualifications to really perform in that capacity and we need someone with the background to actually really be able to do the best possible job in homeland security but first let me ask you about, ned ryan, this mitt romney thing, general petraeus. do you think there is a chance the general can get it? everybody is so up in arms about mitt romney that it become as very difficult task for him to be able to give it to romney at this point? >> i think so. first of all, kellyanne appearing on tv was no mistake. it is not by chance it was on tv. she had clearance at some level to go on to express her feelings what is taking place. she made very valid point. there is significant revolt on the grassroots with mitt romney as secretary of state. romney was going out of his way to attract trump. it was not every now and then he was going on every day and every month. commerce, treasury, i could understand. the thing that is a little disappointing -

bush ned ryan. ned, you get the first shot. respond to my words. am i mistaken when i say i'm looking for a president-elect to be more inclusionary? >> well, here is the deal, first of all, i think people are understanding that trump meant what he said when he was running for office. now he won and he's going to put people in places that he thinks are going to advance what he wants to see accomplished. i think you said something interesting, michael. you said i'm going to give trump a chance not from his words but from his action. for example, jeff sessions, i think people will be pleasantly surprised if they start to look at jeff sessions actions when he was a u.s. attorney and attorney general of alabama. he was pushing for desegregation of schools. his case against the son of the clansman that murdered a young blackman as attorney general eventually led to breaking of the back of the kkk in alabama. he was one of the only republicans to vote for eric holder as attorney general. i mean, he was an advocate for rosa parks. he voted for the 30-year

for more analysis i'm joined with democratic strategist harlan hill and ned ryan. are you still a democratic strategist these days? harlan: at this point i pretty much transitioned out of that. democratic party left me behind. trish: i have to ask you about no investigation into hillary clinton. one of your big concerns about clinton from the get-go and the reason you liked bernie sanders than hillary clinton was the concerns about pay to play with the foundation, e-mail server, et cetera, et cetera. what do you think donald trump potentially backing out of investigations right now? harlan: if he backs out of this investigation, i think it's a mistake, i understand why he's doing it. he put her on notice. you broke the law and that you will be held accountable if i'm elected president. but, you know, on the same hand, i have to say that putting hillary clinton in jail, investigating her, that doesn't fix the economy or kill office is. if we are georgia to focus on making america great again we have to put this behind us. trish: i hear you. if you can get away with

joining me right now is julie roginsky and ned ryan. good to see both you guys. >> thanks, trish. trish: ned, you've predicted this for a while. in all fairness to you, you've been saying that he could catch up. he's there right now, but there's still another seven days to go. what does he need to do to close this? >> so, there are a couple of things. as you noted, i've been saying this was going to be a close election. i thought this was tightening up last week before new york times ran an above the fold story on wikileaks e-mails and bill clinton inc., and you were seeing these trends before friday and the fbi's reopening of this case. i think what trump's got to do is realize he's got to win ohio, he's got to win florida, he's got to win north carolina. leave pennsylvania alone, i think pennsylvania's such a tease for republicans. we can't, right now we can't overcome the philadelphia machine. leave pennsylvania alone and focus on these states. he has to win those states that i just mentioned if he's going to have a chance of winning the white house. he also has to win iowa as w

[laughter] the democrats are in disarray, a unanimous vote for paul ryan. look, i never thought that this vote was going to be anything but this. yes, there was some tension between the trump camp and paul ryan, but the house of representatives loves paul ryan. he is the brain of that institution, he has all the policies. he's a wonk, and they know he wants to get the job done, and they're so excited now that they have donald trump there he can do it. trish: ned, there's a lot that can be done, a lot many economists feel should be done in the way of lowering taxeses and creating less regulation, and now donald trump has the oval office, the house and the senate, how much of an asset or liability -- i

joining me with her perspective, pollster lee carter along with ned ryan, jonah goldberg from the national review and progressive radio host chris hahn. good to see all you guys. lee, i'm going to start with you. walk me through what you see as perhaps the most viable path for donald trump tonight starting in florida? >> it is a tough path. first of all, he has to win every single state that's been called republican or leaning republican, that's not necessarily guaranteed. then he has to win all four swing states. he needs to win, florida, north carolina, ohio and new hampshire. and then he needs to take one more state and turn it blue. it is not an easy matt to victory for donald trump, but it is possible. we've seen record voter turnout. that blows up the model, by the way. likely voters are voters that voted before, and we know we're going to have a lot more than that. then we have to look at who is voting. we're also seeing record number of working class people going out in michigan, he could turn michigan. if he turns michigan, very viable path. there's also talk that he might be able

get the read from former bush advisor ron christie, and ned ryan, former bush 43 presidential writer. good perspective from all. alexander, you always hear there is enormous pressure on a new president coming in, especially in this case he has republican congress working with him. it was same pressure on barack obama. of course you will get stuff done. you have the full run of washington. but that isn't always a guarranty, right? what do you, what do you see being prioritized to make sure everyone is on the same page? >> first of all, i think enthusiasm is absolutely there to get things done. not only do you have a bunch of congressional republicans who have been waiting for the opportunity to pass through a piece of legislation, but you have president lent trump who pitched himself to the american voters someone who can get things done and get them done quickly. what his priorities will be when he talks about infrastructure spending. he wants to spend a bunch of money building new roads and fixing bridges. wants to repeal and replace obamacare and address the broken immigration syste
