neil? neil: you know what is interesting?e last month or so, lauren, you think about it you reported early in the morning as well. >> yeah. neil: this idea we'll have these huge swings, hundreds of points, 1000 points or more and getting routine. how are traders adjusting to that? >> status quo. getting used to it. volatile will be the theme at the end of 2018. maybe react to it a little bit more on the downside but it happens on the upside as well. we've seen it all week. just a few trading days into the new year. volatility is certainly here. a lot of the moves that you -- everyone was talking about a recession. the markets were trying to tell us recession was coming. maybe trying to create a recession. a few traders that i spoke with a little while ago, look at jobs data today. there is no recession. taking a nice day as we're seeing today, for what it is. not selling off with good news. sometimes the street interprets good news as bad news. they're not doing that at the moment, lauren simonetti. to lauren's point apple sh

neil: right. so it's like a hurricane, you know, you've got the hit and then you've got everything when it returns. >> exactly so certainly yes, maybe so the money lost at restaurants you're not going to suddenly eat out three times as much but eventually you will. neil: i would. >> okay, you would, but you'd still go out and buy your sneakers once your paycheck hits and pay your mortgage once your paycheck hits so in that sense it's very small and even if they weren't paid at all, it's only about one-quarter of 1% of the u.s. gdp, so it would have to last the entire year and then yes, we might get a little concerned, but right now, it's still a tiny bit and most of the money is going to get paid is just delayed. neil: you might be right and another thing that comes up is this isn't on a lot of investors radar, right? more is, they're going to focus on earnings, focus on whether we over did it last year, focus on possible china deal. that's kind of top of mind, right? >> as it should be, i think,

neil: no.re is another thing, it occurs the same week with the buzzfeed article took mueller's team to say not true. they didn't specify which exactly wasn't true. tough suppose the allegation in the buzzfeed article that president ordered michael cohen to lie to congress which would be obstruction of justice. to be fair a lot of mainstream reporting on this, they prefaced things, if true, this would be bigger than watergate. if true, there would be obstruction of justice. there was little dialing back and correction afterwards. >> plenty of journalists from all kind of publications, all media saying if this is not true buzzfeed has a really big problem. buzzfeed should roll up and go home. neil: you don't like the president, you want him out of there, this would feed, i could see that. >> i do like to your point, there were some people if, and that if is so important. we, some times the fact i think we're so used to having everything, instantaneously, right, there is something to be said for p

neil, it is yours. neil: stuart, thank you very much. we're following up on getting in and out of the lows of the day. caterpillar is contributing a quarter of that with disappointing earnings and sales on guidance that didn't exactly electrify the multinational community. a lot of names that dominate the s&p 500 are feeling it. boeing is another one. nvidia, the chipmaker reported much lower than expected guidance for revenues in the quarter that stock is already down 14%. it is carrying a lot of big names with it from intel, amd, micron. they are getting kicked around badly. the comment president made to the "wall street journal" he doubts we will get a deal next couple weeks before possibility of another shut down. in other words he could not guarranty there would not be another shutdown. republicans and indeed democrats saying that would be a bad idea to revisit. republicans among them, telling him do not go back to visit this well. we're on top of that. susan li is busy. she has been on every show everywhere. rose cliff capital foun
