neil: hmmm. know, you just opened up a real big wound there that i didn't want to explore with you but i've been watching where a lot of this money, even on the part of investors at these various banks are going. there's a rush in the money-market funds like we've never seen. what do you make of that? >> i think investors want to know they have as much liquidity as possible, and maybe they aren't as confident in the banking system. i think it shows that investors overall, consumers overall are reassessing how bad these risks are. how stable our financial system is, and when you look at the comments that we've been hearing , jay powell on wednesday , as an example. he raises rates by 25 basis points and then, he said he still sees a path for a soft landing. soft landing? whose going to tell him that we've already seen bank failures here in the u.s.. so look. investors and consumers, we're a bit uptight and scared. we saw how this played out in 2008 and it was painful. it was incredibly painful. no

neil? >> neil: incredible. thanks, chad.was referring to the rates of about 4. 5 to 4.75%. that's called the federal funds rate. it's an overnight bake lending rate. here's the kicker. a year ago it was essentially zero. and st. paddy's day last year, the fed started hiking the rakes. it was started by a quarter point hike and more hikes that brought us up to the 5% level. taking the chairman at his word today that he will still remain vigilant on inflation. his goal is to bring it down to 2%. it's well north of 6%. you can imagine how high rates might have to go to do just that and what damage is done in the interim. let's go to gary kaltbaum on that. if you want to get to 2% inflation and welling well north of 6% right now, you have some work to do. you have rates to hike. you have some damage to inflict. >> yeah, mr. powell might as well have said today we're going to be at 5% this month, a half point and he might well have said see 6%. that's what he was telegraphing. this all comes from the last two inflation reports th
