i'm neil cavuto. thanks for charles payne for filling in yesterday. what is going on with investments and investors today? buoyed by a strong economy and stronger than expected earnings, two of the major market averages hit record territory. the s&p 500, a good read of corporate america. the best read we had and the nasdaq, technology laden may be, a good cross section of medium to large businesses that are the very pulse of the economy. deidra bolton on what happened. deidra? >> that's right. you hit it on the head. as usual. it's all about earnings. if you look at this broad swath, there were so many different companies that we heard from, so many different parts of the economy. for example, lockheed-martin, a defense company. they exceeded expectations. twitter finally found their footing. that proves to be a strong stock. and carrying the other social media companies up with it. some of the staples that we think of. united technologies, procter & gamble, coca-cola. all of these. so far we're still let's say relatively early in this earnings season

i'm neil cavuto. first i'd like to thank my colleagues and friends, deidra bolton and sandra smith and charles payne for filling in while i was out. thanks. and elizabeth warren is not the only one pushing for tax hikes. but where she's targeting and for whom she hopes to get the money is a different story. susan li is crunching the numbers. susan? >> welcome back. according to elizabeth warren, no loop holes, no exemptions according to her new tax policy with a 7% proposed corporate tax on the big, big companies with revenues above $100 million. that is on top of the corporate taxes that they already owe, which should be above 21%. that she says could net the government a trillion dollars. amazon made headlines because they paid zero corporate taxes last year according to some reports. under warren's plans, they would pay close to $700 million. warren is not the only one that wants money from the powerful and wealthy. bernie sanders wants an estate tax. that could go up to 70% if you inherit somethin
