judges, bringing the total to 187 federal judges, including two great supreme court justices, neil gorsuchn bellkin joins us live to explain why this is so significant. how much weight do these judges have in terms of the direction our country is going to go for the foreseeable future? >> these judges are lifetime appointments. they'll affect policy down the line. the average age i'm told of the trump appointees are in the 40s. with obama, the average age was in the 50s. the judges will have an immense effect going forward. todd: pointing out the numbers, take a look at ki circuit court consistencircuit courtnominatio. look at the overall number of federal judge confirmations, trump, 187, easily beating the previous three presidents. from a policy perspective, from a subject matter perspective, what are you expecting to see different as a result of these judges being confirmed? >> i think the republican mindset is not to appoint conservative justices. i don't like the dichotomy of liberal and conservative judges. republicans are more likely to appoint judges that will follow the written do

the two trump-appointed justices on the supreme court, neil gorsuch and brett kavanaugh, they have somee they'll be with all of this. come monday morning a lot of people will be watching to see if they say anything or if they ask any questions. with me right now is msnbc legal analyst danny cevallos. danny, why is this case such a big deal? >> because the supreme court has virtually left the second amendment untouched for the last century or so. speaking to it only in the 2008 case of heller, which really covered a very narrow issue, the right to possess and own firearms in the home. two years later, it wasn't even a second amendment case, the supreme court said this second amendment is now applicable to the states through the 14th ame amendment. other than that, justice thomas himself has called the second amendment constitutionally the court's orphan because the court has taken on dozens and dozens of other constitutional fourth amendment, fifth amendment issues, but has shied away from that secretary amendment. >> break down what's at the core of this particular case, the cliff notes
