it started with nellie bly, and people heard about this era it's nellie bly and she as a young womanern pennsylvania kind of finagled her way in. and that didn't hold her back, she's ambitious and slightly over a year, new york is the place to be and i'm going to new york and work for the best papers in the country. she spent long months there trying to find a job. and it was competitive and everyone want today work for the same papers that she wanted to work for. women were not in high demand, as a utility reporters. but she got her first assignment and at joseph pulitzer's the world, and volunteering to get herself committed to an insane asylum for women and she had ten days there and came out with an explosive expose', the horrible way that the women were treated. many weren't mentally ill, many seemed to be poor or broken english or families want today get rid of. on the one hand it was a valuable piece of investigative journalism and on the other hand, she told it in a way with irresistible reading. she had a first person narrator, used a lot of theme and dialog and the characte
