then in 2020, nevada moved to automatic voter registration. anyone going to the dmv to say, update their driver's license is registered to vote unless they opt out. if they don't pick a party, then they're registered as a nonpartisan. that made the number jump a lot by july 2023, the state's nonpartisan voters outnumbered registered republicans and democrats. the number of nonpartisan voters is over a third of the electorate. but how many of that third actually vote? it's low. it's like 10 to 15%, but they're staying registered to vote. so something is going on with them. candidates i talked to are afraid of them because they're like, we don't have good polling. i don't know what might be the trigger that's going to get them to vote. there's enough of them in my race they could flip the election. massive potential political power from the so-called battle born state, where voters are now looking for a bit less of the battle, took a long time to get where we're at. it's going to take us time to get out of where we are. so you think that the non

any of those southern states other than nevada, which i will complain about nevada at length, any of those three southern states goes blue, harris is going to win the election. any of those northern states that go read, donald trump is probably going to win the election. saloons the direction that the southern states are going. of the 47 states, nevada is the most democratic. they spend most democratic one in every election since 2008 and it has this astonishing thing it does every 24 use. it's going to be big in nevada. and then the data says we are quite a democratic state. they have good turnout on the ground because of service worker union and a bunch of other things. but they along with michigan have been the most consistently democratic swing state how does this stand currently? harris enjoys a tentative point in the average polls. not very much at all. especially in states that both hillary clinton joe biden won. but the race is younger, we don't have a ton of swing states. now we go east to arizona. that is a statement from one by 3.5 point joe biden by 2/10 of a point, 11,40

that narrow path seemed different now that nevada seems to be pulling in a different way. >> nevada, they are a state to pull there and it's always been demographic opportunity. you have that huge blue-collar, white population trending. harris has made strides with nonwhite and hispanic voters. young hispanic voters. where are you going to find voters like that, less likely you find them in wisconsin, michigan, pennsylvania. you will find them in sunbelt states so there's more opportunity for democrats down there, but that being said, biden winning georgia, that's the first time a democrat won that state since 1992 and it was just under 12,000 votes. arizona was 10,000 votes. these are extremely narrow margins that biden took these states by. there's a pool of sort of political history there that keeps the states winnable for republicans. >> this two aspects about georgia and arizona, something we've been talking about and and as you been briefing us. there is the polling but then there's the kind of people living in the kinds of places they are in the voting groups, democrats do bet

in nevada, it's a little easier., there is surprise this battle has been happening on the doorstep. i might even drive past the courthouse on my way home. the fact it is being kept. so secret is kind of shady. it could have so much impact. on our future and the future of the information that the public receives in this country. - us audiences are already deeply divided over the way politics is portrayed on different networks. you hear one thing on this station and you hear the absolute opposite, and it's like, you are lying to people and their gullible and they're believing it. the outcome of this case matters because rupert murdoch's powerful media empire has helped shape politics and the careers of political leaders around the world. and it has a big influence on the type of news many people consume day—to—day. we may never know the full details of how this power struggle within the murdoch news empire gets resolved. on this occasion, rupert murdoch appears unwilling to become the news himself. emma vardy, bbc news
