former chair of the san francisco federal reserve you have a pretty good understanding of the state of nevada and the current economic conditions. since we've had this economic collapse. in the federal reserve to the normal economy than we have been in a long time and i would stress that data is nowhere close to the normal economy. well maybe some parts of the country are experiencing some recovery. nevada is still at 8.8 unemployment, second highest in the nation and many homeowners are still underwater. so i guess the question is do you feel that the struggle that nevada is currently experiencing, is this a new normal? according to the president of the federal reserve or a new economic reality? >> as you know, senator, nevada was one of the hardest hit. it had one of the biggest booms in housing and that is about the biggest bust of any market in this country, and i am well aware that it's an unusually large share of the home owner's underwater. the prices have come up, and they are coming up in a way most rapidly in some of the areas like las vegas. but it is still going to be long before

we are seeing in states like nevada and virginia, both the governor and attorney general saying, lookonstitutional, we are elected to protect all of our citizens, not just some of them. and in pennsylvania, in fact, the attorney general of pennsylvania said pennsylvania's exclusion of same same-sex coupn unconstitutionalitying. the governor is, but she refused to. >> i need to step back and say we mentioned earlier the situation in arizona in, that indication the community is trying to get the governor to go along with them. but this is legislation that would say, look, you cannot serve game and lesbian companies in your business establishment, that doesn't seem like any sort of step towards marriage equality. >> yeah, obviously that's just a horrid law. that we urge in the strongest terms for governor brewer to veto. and it's just a tremendous step backwards that we don't -- we have been there in this country with laws like that that said that certain people are not welcome at the lunch counter or at the restaurants or at the hotel. and we truly think this is a law that is horrible b

a child's majority leader to go home to nevada, his home state, have a town hall meeting, hear from theis state and say is he willing to call them liars to their face? stuart: that is extremely sharp edged language. you start saying that kind of thing, that is tough stuff. why did he do that? >> i don't know if he is in denial, taking direction as it up at of the president to say these sorts of things. if this health care law was so good, why has it president unilaterally change 24 different times at least in order to try to push the pain back beyond the 2014 elections. people are seeing how devastating this has been in terms of jobs, in terms of their take-home pay. and their health specifically. unions complaining about it, cancer patients complaining because they can't keep their doctors. everyone knows someone hurt by the health care law. stuart: what is make political sense to use the same harsh language and throw it back in his face? would that be good politics, do you think? >> what i want to do is bring to the american people the truths about the damage done by the health care l

have also been looking at ways to collaborate with the other states that we share the colorado river with, including california, wyoming, nevada, new mexico and utah. over the past 12 or so years, those collaborative efforts, through conservation and programs that peter already mentioned have really resulted in popping up the elevation of lake mead on the colorado river, the primary reservoir that provides water to california, nevada and arizona, by 10 feet or approximately 1 million-acre feet of water, and recently that has included the republic of mexico. so one thing that will happen is the states will get together with the federal government and find more ways to collaborate and find ways to create equity and sharing the risks and the water supplies that we share with the colorado river. >> but in order to put best practices in place, you have to have water in the first place. and some of this has a heavy dependence on what nature does, doesn't it? >> yes, we have been in a drought for 14 years on the colorado river, and despite that, we have not hit any shortage of elevation in lake mead. and those elevations do exist pur
