afghanistan. a vicarious experience. not so much news or political eve events but trying to tell people what afghanistan is like because most people here just don't know. i met taliban prisoners who were just riddled with wounds all over their body. they had little one-inch diameter holes in their body. very clean burns. it burns and seals up. they were in bad shape. i asked them why did you come here from pakistan? and they said our religious leaders told us to fight the great satan of america. and i said well how did that go? and they looked at me like i was, you know, a jerk, and they said it didn't go very well, did it? and i said would you do it again? and they said both said yes, we would do it again. these guys may have died a few days after that. they were hanging on when i talked to them. but that kind of blew me away. they had been down in this basement and bombed, burned, and flooded in a basement and they were still saying they would do it again. they had if your religious leaders told us to do it again we would do it again.
