we call the richmond district the new chinatown in the 1980's at that time.ghborhood, and discovering san francisco in the 1980's as i grew up, but i also have been very active as a community organizer. i worked in chinatown, and some first jobs also at the mental health center in the richmond area multi services in the 1980's, and i was also a staff are at the chinatown youth center -- i was also a staffer. a lot of my work has been supporting community empowerment, especially in an immigrant and people of color communities. most recently, i have been teaching at san francisco state. i ran the immigrant rights coalition in the city in the 1990's for several years. i'm also an immigration attorney, and a lot of my passion is supporting in power met for immigrant communities in the city as well. >> why did you choose to live in san francisco? supervisor mar: a lot of people bring this up, but is one of the most exciting, culturally diverse places in the world. learning about new cultures and people from different parts of the world, like a gateway neighborhood

, the governor is going to take away $27 million to help build the new central subway that links the south of market area with chinatownthat's a $1.5 billion project so losing $27 million probably won't hurt muni nearly as much. caltrain is going to lose $4 million that it was planning to spend converting some diesel powered trains to electric. both bart and muni say they won't give up the money without a fight. they are going to try to convince the governor to restore the funding. >> i read something that bart spokesman had said like wait a minute, the governor used to ride these trains. has he lumped us in with the wrong group? >> they hope they have a sympathetic ear. the governor says he doesn't see the connection between high- speed rail money and local transit. they say once the bullet trains are built they will get off bart and muni. so there is a connection. we want some of this money to upgrade our systems for those passengers. >> so these agencies aren't giving up the fight but is there really a fight to be had? >> for now the governor veto that money. it's not coming. they are going to have to go to sacramen
