if you take a look at the new congress, the communist congress in cuba, all of the new leaders, albeitounger, follow the exact same political persuasion. so for those people who think that the -- castro's death may mean an overnight change in terms of the regime or the politics of cuba, it may take a bit longer than that because the reality is that a lot of the young people venezuela have been indoctrinated on this type of political persuasion from the time they go to elementary school. i was mentioning a little earlier the case of elian gonzales, if you remember back in -- it was actually thanksgiving day 1999 when he was found alive after a number of cuban migrants including his mother had died trying to get to the united states. several months later, go to june 2000, he is sent back to cuba, and last october we did a story on him. now he is about to finish college. he is one of the most-known figures in cuba, a spokesperson for the revolution, purely indoctrinated and he is about to join the military. that gives you an idea of the kind of information, propaganda that cuban young peo

let's not mistake the death of fidel castro with a new day in cuba. e government that has been in power for ten years is raoul castro's government. they remain. there's a new government coming into the united states, and so there is where the dynamic may change one way or the other. but, remember, even as barack obama stretched out his hand to cuba and opened things up a little bit and so forth with executive orders, it was often raoul castro who pushed back and said, well, they're moving toward us, we remain firm where we are. that's notable because even in the face of friendship from president obama, the stance of the cuban government was we will remain status quo. i don't know. if you study history, i mean i guess there are some dictatorships that, you know, bow out gracefully and decide, okay, you have us, we're just going to take a break, we've had a good run, see you later. >> but, armando, if i can just pitch in there, what is interesting about the timing of this, if i can put it that way, is that raoul castro himself is in a position at a junct

and now, with his passing, a new chapter begins in cuba. reporting from washington, lana, z ak. >>> a man in critical condition after a shoot-out with philadelphia police. investigators say two officers on patrol in port richmond saw the suspect put a handgun into his waistband and after about ten:30 last night. they say they tried to stop the man along the 1900 block of clementine but they say he then took off running. officers followed that hasn't and some time during the chase he started shooting at them. >> the male turn, pulled the handgun and fires at the office. the officers returned fire. at which point the male continues to flee on foot. >> we're told this came to an end a few blocks away on the 2900 block of amber street. police say another group of five officers responded to the scene and shot that man. he was rushed to temple university hospital in critical condition. we know an innocent bystander was hurt in the gunfire. she was treated for a bullet injury to her leg and this morning, police internal affairs is investigating th
