parts of new england could get as much as a foot or more of snow, made even worse by high winds. a brutal combination for anyone trying to get around outside. let's get details now from the weather channel's chris warren. hey, chris. >> hey, lester. you said it, this is going to end up being a nasty storm. now, we do have this area of low pressure that is offshore just south of nova scotia. the satellite radar combination showing that we are already seeing some moderate-to-heavy snowfall over parts of maine and into new england. what's interesting about this, instead of moving out, it's actually backing back into the region. meanwhile, we're starting to see some heavy snow over the great lakes with the lake-effect snow machine kicking in. this all after a record-breaking day for low temperatures. look at these numbers, minus 36 degrees below zero at international falls. so some of these records had been around since the '70s, the records that fell. this is some very cold air. snowfall totals will be impressive, both with the lake-effect snow, we could see more than a foot of snow

they got pummeled in new england. two feet of snow.a of low pressure is still spinning and contrasting with high pressure that's very strong in the middle of the country. that means wind. and the winds are lessened a little bit from yesterday but not much. as far as clouds go, there's a little bit of cloud cover. we're going to see variably cloudy conditions throughout today. but the real story, the blustery conditions and the temperature well below normal. we are in the 20's which doesn't sound too impressive. when you factor in these breezes or winds at about 14 miles an hour, 14 miles an hour up in westminster, the real-feel temperature is significant. it only feels like 10 right now in westminster, 13 downtown, 10 in parkton. on the eastern shore the wind chill is in the lower teens as well. a bitterly cold day. where should we be? 42 is our normal high for january 4. again, well off the mark at only 31 below freezing today. a mix of clouds and sun. more clouds this afternoon. and a chance for some flurries as there's weak disturba

one heavy snowfall possible in parts of new england.econd, an arctic blast affecting a third of the nation. let's begin with the two big stories. in the northeast. area of low pressure moving offshore and could bring up to a foot of snowfall in places like bangor, maine and on 95. can expect to the have almost whiteout conditions in parts of the afternoon and into tomorrow. some places up to a foot of snowfall. back to the west, moving into the western great lakes and into the northern plains. check out the current temperatures. fargo, 33 degrees below zero this morning. that's your current temperature. duluth, minnesota, 20 below. 12 below in minneapolis. 28 below zero to neighbors to the north in winnipeg and coldary travels as far south as sioux falls, and things warm up later today. in fact, high temperatures going to a balmy, relatively speaking, 2 degrees in minneapolis. high in denver, 4 2. back out west, boston, new york, mainly 30s and wrap it up in atlanta way high of 38 degree. that is your forecast. i'm reynolds wolf for hln
