awfully nice conditions around here, but up in new england, those folks trying to dry out after days and days of rain. their third nor'easter, no surprise there because they had three nor'easters for the month. the latest triggering flooding. rhode island, south eastern massachusetts, historical portions along the river. flooding they haven't seen in that period of time. >> the rain stopped here in rhode island but problems remain along the pawtuxet river which crested today an amazing 11 feet above flood stage. that is a record, something people here never have seen. they are dealing with a host of problems as a result. hundreds of evacuations about ten shelters are open for those folks. people have been trying to bump out their basements as west they can and deal with the situation they have never seen before. roadways have been a major problem. parts of i-95 were shut down today for the first time in history due to flood waters. dozens of ancillary roadways led to traffic gridlock throughout the state of rhode island. as far as the forecast, the flood water are starting to recede.

many separators a lifetime of biopsies performed on them, a study published today in the new england journal of medicine shows that doctors can safely reduce the number of biopsies by using an available blood test plus an echocardiogram to identify patients at low risk for rejecting their transplanted hearts. the blood tests reduce the number of biopsies needed in a test group of patients by 73%. they are also about $1000 cheaper than a blood test. and equally important, a patient's satisfaction survey showed that patients preferred the blood test to the biopsy. but the blood tests are not an option for all patients. those with a high risk of rejection still need heart biopsies. with this medical minute, i'm dr. timothy johnson. . >>> summer is right around the corner and many people are hitting the tanning beds despite all the health warnings but a new study claims the ultraviolet raise can be addictive. the study surveyed 420 college students and 39% of those students were addicted to indoor tanning. what were the reasons? well, the study shows that students, they wanted to look an
