. >> a monster storm taking aim at new england. this time it could last for days. >> some areas could see up to 2 feet of snow. maria molina tracking the latest for us. good morning. >> hi. it has been an active month for parts of new england. some areas seeing snow already this season. we are expecting a i lot from this next storm system. i want to start with windchill temperatures across the midwest and into the north and great lakes. chicago, minneapolis teens as well in new york city. well below zero across portions of new england. in care beau maine, 29 degrees below zero is what it feels like out there. across the southeast and into the plains windchills not bad into the 50's and 60's out there. future radar the snow already started across parts of new england yesterday. we are expecting it to continue through out the day today. this will be a relatively long event because areas will continue to see the snow coming down across massachusetts and rhode island as we head into early tomorrow morning as well. winter storm warnings

some new england coastal areas got up to a foot and a half of snow. that includes parts of boston which set a record for the snowiest seven day period in the city's history. kris van cleve is in boston where it's postponed a big super bowl celebration. >> reporter: the super bowl champions new england patriots touched down at logan airport monday night. their parade was sacked by another snowstorm. it's set for wednesday. >> i feel like i'm in the north pole. it's crazy. >> reporter: boston was one of the last stops for the huge winter storm which dumped heavy snow from the midwest to maine. detroit reported its third biggest snowfall on record and chicago received the fifth heaviest. >> this has been a snowstorm for the record books and we're seeing a record response as well. >> reporter: after getting hit by two major snow events in a week, the focus here in boston is on getting all of this snow out of the streets city wide. schools are closed again here tuesday as the city tries to dig itself out. >> we're asking people if you can't stay off the ro

this is really been a localized misery for new england. a lot of the great lakes has been kind of cold. it hasn't been that snowy. but for the middle of the country, from texas to colorado it's been 60s and 70s. i want that. i would love to have some of that. i'm like one day in the 40s. i'm not going to be greedy. >> that would be perfect. >> the storm is over in areas of eastern massachusetts. two days to clean up. the latest storm -- again, we weren't hit in new england, providence and albany and areas got a snowstorm. it was boston and south of boston, that's who picked up nearly two feet of snow. they've been getting so slammed worse than anybody else in new england. the next storm. it's going to come down in the great lakes through wednesday. thursday redevelops off the coast. this was a glancing blow as of now, thankfully. more snow in southeast mass. a couple inches here. it looks like maybe a glancing blow. and it's cold after that. the next chance i think of a bigger storm would be sunday in areas of new england. we have two more

[laughter] a place called columbia pennsylvania, which had previously been right -- wright ferry, but you changed the name to columbia in hopes of enticing congress. the bill went to the senate. the senate amended the bill crossing out the susquehanna and saying it would be a germantown, pennsylvania. the bill came back to the house. the new englanders and pennsylvanians were willing to go along with that. pennsylvania is going to be upset at the result. madison tries to argue constitutionally that this bill was different it could not have it at the end of the session, we need to discuss it. the meaning and pennsylvanians said no, vote. madison said there is one problem. there is no

the worse by far in new england.i have right now is watertown, new york, at negative 24 windchills. but everybody is in the teens. even the low 20s. even as far south as philadelphia we're at negative 9. it's a very windy night out there. and the winds are biting. exposed skin is dangerous. kids at the bus stop that sort of thing. our blizzard watch up again. right along the coast. it's an eastern new england special including the boston area. saturday night into sunday winds could gust as high as 60 miles per hour. even if they only get 6 to 12 inches of snow even the snow on the ground is so light and fluffy, everything is going to be blowing all over the place. it's going to be a nightmare traveling. we're saying anywhere around 6 to 12 inches around boston but maine, is going to get nailed. we could see up to 2 feet. thomas, for valentine's day, notice how split the country is. everyone in the west texas, so many people are like seeing the best winter ever but not in new england. >> i'm predicting a new england b

unrelenting snow has tested the mettle of even hardy new englanders. in the past 30 days there have been major multiple snow events. january 27, upwards of 22 inches. another 16 inches less than a week later. then nearly 7 1/2 followed by about a foot of snow today. in total a record 60-plus inches and counting, paralyzing parts of the region. with historic amounts of snow on the ground, there's not enough space to put it all. melters, which use flame burners to dissolve the snow, can't keep up. so the city may be forced to dump snow in the harbor, which is normally off limits. so much snow has been removed across the state 10,000 dump trucks all in boston alone, it would fill the home of the super bowl champions new england patriots stadium 90 times with nonstop plowing, shovinging and blowing, many have had enough. >> i think we're all kind of on our last run. and there's more to come. >> reporter: boston public schools are closed again tomorrow. officials are discussing whether to tramp april vacation to get the required number of school days in bef

it's winter in new england. we will get it done. >> because this is an unusual winter in new england, even by new england standards, this is pretty awful, right? >> you're right. i think i saw national weather announce the city of boston set a record snow for a week or ten-day period. we got a lot of snow out there and extremely cold temperatures but like i said we have dealt with similar things in the past maybe not as bad as this but people will figure it out. >> what's the biggest problem you're facing? you are in charge of emergency management. >> well i think right now, short term is really getting people home safely this evening. the plows are out there but the temperatures have dropped about 20 degrees in a few hour period and we've got this flash freeze going on in the southern part of the state as well so the roads, you're not only dealing with snow but also ice. so the commute is very problematic. we are encouraging a lot of people if you don't have to go right home if you can hang in there for a few h

by tomorrow morning, everybody in new england is in that snow line. at happens in new york is that we're going to be looking at sleet and freezing rain. this could bring up a tenth of an inch of rain for the morning commute and much of the trisay the -- tristate area. for the rest of new england, looks like it will be an all-snow event. once again we are looking at pretty hefty snowfall. so much of tomorrow is going to be a winter weather day. the better part of tomorrow for all of new england right down through the new york area. here's a look at our snowfall forecast. chicago, an additional 8 to 12 inches. detroit, 8 to 12. boston could pick up over a foot. by the way, alex just a note here. if boston does get 10 inches it would be the snowiest seven days on record ever there. new york only looking at 3 to 6. that's because we're right on that rain/snow line. but still some very impressive totals. albany could be on the overside of a foot there. so that's what we're looking at right now in terms of the snow. >> that is some statistic you report about

just in terms of its expansive necessary, basically extends all the way from new england straight back into the deep south of texas here. soap it has got plenty of moisture it is drawing from, we new from the get-go this would be moisture-rich storm. that's definitely what we're finding here. at the local level see how things have been shift g over if it was snow a loft have you zoo since seen it turn over to rain. even though it may be rain technically falling from the sky, depending on temperature it, could still be freezing on contact. so yes really does depends on your location, and where your travels will be taking you, the further south you are, the more likely it is it is just wet roads not quite as much of a concern with ice. but i would just play it safe, expect it could be slick out there, folk, no matter where you are, flirting with or actually exceeding half of an inch, in vineland, for example, chaddsford, just shy of it, couple of tents every an inch in philadelphia, at the international airport, as well. so, you know, picking up on decent rain. further north you go, stil

they had a tough winter this morning through parts of new england. don't have much good news.temperatures continuing for a couple days and potential of more heavy snowfall through new england. take a look at the numbers well below zero in terms of windchill temperatures in places like minneapolis, chicago, believe land and single digits through parts of the southeast. at the end tomorrow morning some of the cold arctic air will move eastward and make things colder across the northeast. we will be looking at new records out there of 10 degrees below zero and single digits up and down the i 95 corridor. we one system tracking and the system is bringing heavy areas first impacting portions of the midwest as we wrap up this workweek of snow and potentially heavy systems out there. 500 pound meteor flying over pittsburgh pennsylvania. americans in new york, ohio, michigan and pennsylvania reported seeing it. nasa seeing fragments of the burnt out meteor like scattered through pennsylvania that might be a nice weekend project. see if we can find a piece of that meteor. >> that would
