so we're quiet into new england of the we move out of new england and here is the storm. moisture is no loss of that. it's loading up on moisture from the gulf of mexico. it has a lot of jet stream energy so noticing numerous showers and thunderstorms. so your storm timeline as we march through the next 24 hours it moves to the middle atlantic coastline and high pressure, it has been an arkity area of high pressure. it has been cold for us in new england but it serves a good purpose if you don't like snow because it blocks the storm from moving right up into sorb new england. if the blue h. was a little farther north we would be advertising a foot of snow but that is not the case. the storm is going out under new england and spare most of us anything significant. we do get into some accumulating snow. late in the day saturday and the white that you see i think the bark is worse than the bite. i think there will be patches of light snow and flurries. the computer models sometimes have a hard time identifying pockets of dry air and dry air will be chewing up the northern ed

that goes up into southern new england right along our south coast. but we do expect the worst, the bankrupt of this -- the brunt of down on the atlantic. maybe 10, 15 inches close to new york city and about a foot of snow across long island. we're right on the northern edge of this. still important the watch how much of this moisture can work and pivot back into southern new england to bring us some snow. at least expecting many folks down through southeastern mass having to plow and shovel. and even in the city of boston, i expect some snow out of this. take a look at the forecast model tomorrow morning. snow overspreading the south coast by about 8:00, 9:00, 10:00 a.m., cape cod down through buzzards bay. slowly trying to lift north through the day. we may also have some patchy flurries and light know breaking out mid-day close to the city of boston just north and west along a celestial front that will set up. now, there's a lot of dry air just to the north. it will try to eat away at the northern shield of this snow, and that's the battle line with

new england is on the northern edge of the storm system. the entire event, as we work through the day on sunday i think we're going to see developing sunshine quickly on sunday. you notice the h. and the l. what we'll feel the effects will be a fair amount of wind for everyone. the amount of snow that will be most likely confined to saturday evening there will be pockets of light snow and flurries. patches of light snow with the steadiest snow conconfined to the south coast. that holds all night saturday night then it peals out of here quickly early in the day on sunday. probably before 7:00 am on sunday. so how much snow saturday night? coating to an inch around the metro. maybe 1-3 inches along the south shore. route 24 as well then down to the south coast at the water's edge westport, new bedford, 3, 4, 5, maybe 6 inches of snow. that is also the case near the canal on the cape although as you work farther along the cape you will have rain trying to mix in. 30-40 miles an hour winds. on the cape and the islands gusting 45-50. that combin

next to southern new england? northern edge of this precipitation where you get hardly anything and perhaps that's north of the mass pike. just heavy snow south of long island. over long island maybe just across the south coast of new england. here's the set up. saturday late afternoon i would expect the snow to start to work in through southeastern ms. perhaps near day's end close to the city of boston. it's a struggle. you look at saturday night and here's not much northerly extent of the show. some precipitation may break through enough to give us britt of snow north and west of boston. the better bet to see the snow is further south you go. again, sharp gratiant on this storm. you can go from nearly no snow across northern connecticut to a foot of snow across long island. it's very important to really pin down this track. the highest chance to see it as of right now several inch of snow perhaps close to half a foot of snow down through the south coast of massachusetts back into rhode island with lighter amount

2 is the one that we'll lean on which will keep the heaviest of the snow south of new england. the heavy snow risk will be centered in the mid atlantic states, washington d.c., baltimore, philadelphia in particular. and once you get into new york the risk of heavy snow really drops off. the challenge with these powerhouse storms is that usually on the northern edge, which new england is going to be, there is a drastic cut-off. i mean, like all or nothing going from flurries to 6 inches of snow in just a few miles. so that's what we're up against right now. still trying to pin down where that cut-off is to the storm. and the timing of the storm would be late in the day saturday, more likely saturday nights and early sunday morning. so a plowable snow, meaning 2 inches. i think it's possible in boston, 1 to 3 inches of snow possible late saturday evening, saturday night. i don't think it's likely north of the pike. i think you might have some flurries merrimack valley, cape ann, worcester hills and the area most likely to meet shovels and plows that would be plymouth over toward f

mainly quiet weather across new england through upstate new york right now. a couple patchy clouds into the mix. so i do expect the sunshine to demeanor indicate once again today. it will turn out to be another nice afternoon, like yesterday afternoon. albeit a little bit on the cool side. but you'd expect that here in january. in fact, temperatures still a few degrees above average for this time of year. here's one system we're watching back in the middle part of country. this may throw a tiny bit of moisture in here by saturday morning. the bigger storm system working enter california. that's the one we'll watch traverse the country and give us the best shot of a soaking rain as we get in here on sunday. in terms of today, though, we notice temperatures for the west of us into the 30s in the so seasonably mild if you want to call it mild, but relatively speaking from the midwest into the northeast. 30s and 40s, not all that bad. the pattern starts changing up on sunday. area low pressure tracking north and west of us. this was a potent area of low pressure.
