it's hard obviously to judge people's hearts, that there is some evidence that at least new england is becoming more diverse, not just exclusively puritan. now you remember that we talked about that in the 1690s, england started acquiring massachusetts to tolerate other kinds of protestants. and not just puritan, but now you have to tolerate quakers and baptists and other kinds of protestant troops. there are some intriguing pieces of evidence about rising, at least access, sort of immorality in the 1680s it looked like boston probably gets it first brothel. it is characteristic of cities in london at the time, but puritan boston gets a brothel, a house of prostitution and it's horrifying to a lot of people. occasionally, our dancing classes being offered. so, the puritans were not keen on dancing. especially between unmarried couples. so there are actually some pieces of evidence that you could look at and say well, maybe this is becoming a more diverse, non-puritan type society. maybe there is something there to that. maybe there's something to that jeremiads theme. probably the most
