i will be joined by the new venture, arm. google'second quarter earnings topping analysts' estimates. shares are reacting to the news, surging above 8% in after-hours trading. google's new cfo is addressing investors right now for the very first time on the earnings call, saying the company will take great care regarding resource allocation. joining me here in the studio, adam burke. he is a former google employee. also, mike dudas. google has been getting killed in mobile advertising, specifically by facebook. are these numbers more reassuring? adam: i think it's a situation where the entire pie is growing. i don't know if i would classify google as getting killed. they are still extremely dominant. i think we are seeing a new very compelling option with facebook. certainly the overall tailwinds to the mobile advertising space is growing rapidly. google continues to expand. they don't have the monopolistic-type position that they did in desktop search, but they are still a very powerful force. emily: this is ruth's first time on the

lauren i'm looking at google shares right now, up 11% in premarket. >> really unbelievable. take a look at this stock breaking out to newhours and right now in the premarket, this after google report ad blowout second quarter. adjusted profit was 6.99 a share. revenue was 17.7 billion. those numbers beat the street for the first time in a year-and-a-half. investors seem pleased with the new ceo and her message. that google is growing sales while cutting it costs. that means less money spent on the moon shot projects and programs more money distributed to shareholders. google has never distributed money through a dividend or stock buyback. it is sitting on almost $70 billion in cash. saw amazing youtube numbers here. mobile viewing of those videos doubled. despite all the good news there is one thing worrisome, that is revenue growth slowing down a little bit. that suggests google is vulnerable as smaller smartphone screens mean cheaper ad prices. they're selling a lot more ads but the advertises are not high because the screens are smaller plus real estate. sandra: google shares up -- >> yesterday's close $600. 601 and

google's next generation of self-driving cars launches from that garage right behind me. the new pod car hit the streets last week but since there's only two of them on the road and they can only drive a few minutes a day catching a glimpse is rare for now. so this is some of the first video taken of them on a public road. the computer is set to a cautious defensive driving mode. so it's limited to 25 miles per hour. we saw them come to complete stops at the line. no rolling california stops here. and we also saw that they seemed to prefer driving more towards the middle of the street. for now, human passengers are still required to take over in case of emergency. don't expect to see them driving around empty. >> the california dmv has not yet resolved how they are going to handle that so that's why you don't see any autonomous vehicles on the road with no drivers. because that's not allowed right now. >> reporter: and right now only two of those new pod cars are driving on the public streets but google has 25 total registered. they are expected to see many more of these pod cars

to the after hours movers tonight, google surging 10% hitting a new all-time high in the after hours session. jon fortt is monitoring the call. john, what is a big upside here? >> the big upside is google's growth, frankly, despite the currency head winds. they faced a $1.1 billion currency head wind but managed to grow. youtube is a big part of that. they are saying on the call that youtube view time grew 60%. despite the fact that you've got youtube ads that are bringing in a little bit less per click than youtube, than googled traditionally expected, despite the fact you have some head winds with mobile, youtube is able to make up for that. talking about expense discipline saying yes, they are going to continue the things they have been doing on expense discipline but revenue growth continues to be a priority and they are emphasizing the fact they see multiple ways to grow revenue, but as they do that, they also are looking to continue expense discipline that allows you to have a bottom line that has the street so excited, as well. she's only been on the job there about six weeks.
