rick perry: you better spend a long time in new hampshire and be healthy and spend years here. audience member: tell us about how your campaign is going to be different from last time around. ? what are your new thoughts? gov. rick perry: a good segue, being healthy is important. i broke my arm when i was a kid in high school, but coming tougher than that, right? you have to be healthy and on your game, but more importantly, the preparation side. whether it is a sick policy, foreign policy, it takes years of intense study -- domestic policy, foreign policy, it takes years of intense study. from the hoover institute to the brookings institute and everything in between all of those individuals richard fisher and talking monetary policy. i would say just to you that the next president of the united states really needs to be someone who has deep experience as an executive. i am talking about things that you cannot just learned with the book, just sitting down. they did not hand me a manual to say here is how you deal with the space shuttle disintegrating. it did not hand me a manual

i asked him what was different between new hampshire and new jersey and he said i can't really tell you yet, but i'll be here enough times, he's done over 100 town halls in new jersey he's now done two in new hampshire, but i think that's what you're looking at as far as a strategy from chris christie. and it's a strategy that has been tried in new hampshire before and it's worked. these are voters who pay such close attention, they are going to give him that opportunity, that listening. and if he really puts in the effort, i don't think that we can count help out of this as this point. as you saw, this field is so wide open. there is plenty of chance for him to break through. >> i've heard a lot of people talk about how wide open it was. i saw it first hand up there. chris christie, a lot of people talking about him. ted cruz delivered a speech that had people standing. they were standing when he came in standing when he left. rand paul also very strong performance. marco rubio, right now a rock star. he's just -- in republican circles, that guy is the rock star at least of the moment.

>> they have a better newspaper here in new hampshire to read. matter of come if you're in new jersey he read "the new york times" and the philadelphia paper but the people here don't come even when you get to attend article iii online, able to tend to read "the new york times"." >> i'm talking more about all the reporters in manhattan of the report for all the national newspapers that are on all the national television. it shapes news coverage. including a wire story short on the front page of your extraordinary newspaper. >> right. we get reuters and we acquire source in our paper. it absolutely helps shape the narrative but that's why new hampshire is so important. because the candidates come here and the voters get to decide for themselves and not by the media narrative. and i'm from a big state. you hear this from people who say why should new hampshire primary? should make a too big state? florida or somewhere close the answer is no because in a large state, the only in actions are going to get from the candidates for the most part are throu

new hampshire voters like this. what they don't like are presumptuous candidates who come in and assume, especially if you're a bush or a clinton, that people already know who they are, they know their story. they want to be courted. mark: i agree with you that that biographical piece has been missing and it's important for him because he is a bush and people do know him. but there's a lot of resistance to another bush. i thought chris christie was pretty good as well. he's coming in here now as a guy who is not who where he thought he'd be. he's not a favorite. he's trying to fight his way back into relevance and maybe closer to the top tier. i thought did he pretty well. heidi: he has a very no-nonsense style. northeasterners like that kind of approach. the big question for christie is whether this gamble on social security and the entitlement messages that he's carried, it wasn't his style, it's more his substance. you have to wonder how successful that's going to be. mark: he made it pretty clear today he's goin
