nearly 70,000 private sector jobs have been created in new jersey. we're once again creating a sense of optimism in our state. for the first time in ten year, a majority of new jersians recently polled believe the state is back on the right track. today that number is 53%. he cut spending in every department of state government. we reduced overall spending and by the first full budget by over 9%. not off projections of growth, off of baseline spending from a year ago. we cut education. we cut military affairs. we cut benefits for veterans. we cut everything. and folks told me those were the third rails of politics. i decided to go after entitlements. health care and pensions for public employees. this is when they told me this is going to be the real problem. we went out and put together common sense reform, but tough ones. folks now pay more into their pension. they had to actually pay for their health benefits. when i became governor, public employees were not required to pay anything, zero, for their health benefits. we said the retirement age had
