first, over the weekend, new jersey governor chris christie spent some of his very valuable time meetingst valued constituency, iowa agrabusiness multi-millionaire bruce rassetter to assure the voters of not new jersey that he christie, has the chops to cut them the best trade deals. >> you have to have the right person in the oval office negotiating these agreements. the president doesn't know how to negotiate. >> jon: the president doesn't know how to negotiate? let me tell you something christie you think that milktoast criticism of the president is going to get you the republican nominations? you're looking for the republican nomination. i believe the criticism you're looking for is the president doesn't negotiate like most americans. ( laughter ) the president didn't grow up with buy low-sell high american values like our parents-- benghazi. that's what you're trying. and by the by, christie knows negotiating, just take a recent example. in 2004, new jersey sued exxon for $9 billion in restoration and restitution relating to the chemical ( bleep ) of a large area of new jersey that

the state of new jersey asked in the suit for $8.9 billion. $8.9 billion. d last week that the christie administration moved to settle the case for only $250 million. that's like 3% of what the state has been asking for in this lawsuit for more than a decade. what's going on here? when we first reported on this story last week, i wondered out loud on the air, whether this is a normal thing for a big lawsuit like this, for the state to drop its demands to exxon from $8.9 billion down to a quarter of 1 billion. is that a turn of events in the legal world? or is that just as pitiful as it sounds? it turns out a lot of people in new jersey think it is pitiful and sketchy. not only are the environmental groups raising hell about this, but the star ledger, christie must come clean in exxon oil settlement. ex son mobil settlement must be blocked. $250 million settlement with exxon mobil defies reason. in addition to the general sense of anger in the state about this still inexplicable deal, there's also now a lot of consternation about a clause in the state budget

. >> and just because governor christie touts balancing the budget that does not mean that new jersey is not in debt, i asked does it mean that governor christie is lying? >> there are three times of lies lies, and lies and statistics he has to do it under the constitution. that requirement they play games with the numbers. >> that what governor christie is doing is what we have seen many past governors do, robbing peter po to pay paul. bill: is anyone talking about solutions. >> i was surprised by our conversation and acknowledgeing this goes on through many administrations, and saying that the governor is note lying about the circumstances -- not lying about the circumstances pointing out some things that i think a lot of people are not aware of, when you hear the sound bites you might not know that just because we balance the budget we have billions in debt. bill: hank, what did snow removal? and pot holes? we talk a lot about you covered these stories before about how our budgets for snow removal have been reduceed. >> governor in his new budget pushing 50% reduction. last season,
