new jersey. he gets to "crossroads of the revolution," december 1st and 2nd in 1776. keep in in new jersey for almost a month before that. crosses over into pennsylvania in order to keep between him and the british and philadelphia. his big concern was the british would take philadelphia before the end of the campaign season. the 18th century armies generally didn't buy it in the winter. even though it was december, maybe they'll try to push a few more weeks and take philadelphia. he didn't go to pennsylvania and the british took over other central new jersey, including trenton and established their winter quarters here. they decided not to go on to philadelphia until spring. of course then it's washington coming back and attacking those winter quarters in late december 76. king george and boyden aren't in the british hierarchy had wanted to finish the war in a year than they have anticipated a january 1st, 1777 he was going to be -- they're not going to have to worry about it anymore. they're a

he was a new jersey architect from merchant bill, new jersey. it is in the neoclassical style. what is unique about the architecture at the statehouse is how different the building is depending on which architect constructs the wing. very much in contrast with the general assembly, where we just came from. the senate architecture really conveys a strong sense of the senate itself. architecturecal hints back to the origin of the senate to greek and roman architecture. the senate also takes some of their traditions back to the house of lords and the other houses of parliament. the architecture communicate a sense of formality, if you will. one of the features of the room are the murals that were painted in 1903. the painter was best-known for the murals he did at the panama canal. but the murals represent liberty and prosperity. the middle mural quite clearly depicts liberty. here, she is holding a musket rather than a liberty cap. and prosperity is holding the corner of abundance. of abundance. william livingston is up there. he was the first governor and served from 1776 to 179

state police in new jersey tell us that around 12:30 this morning on the southbound side of the new jersey turnpike in west deptford township a tractor-trailer collided with a tour bus. the tour bus traveling from new york headed to atlanta with reported stops in virginia and south carolina. there were 50 people on board including the driver. over 30 people are injured as a result of this crash. the bus, i'm told from people at the scene, overturned on to the side of the turnpike and landed in a grassy ditch. fortunately, there are no major injuries and no fatalities reported with this crash. the driver of the tractor-trailer is reported to be okay, too. you do have more than 30 people from this crash taken to various hospitals, about six throughout the new jersey area. i'm told that people are complaining of pain in extremities. again, no major injuries. there were several children on board. people who were not injured are being held at a municipal building located right off the turnpike. we are headed there. see yyou at 5:00 with their condition and accounts of what happened inside that

washington fell back through new jersey. he was hoping to defend new jersey, but because of the defeats, morale was sinking fast. he was counting on the new jersey militia as well as pennsylvania militia to come forward and strengthen his army. they were not turning out in any significant numbers. he had to continue retreating through new jersey. halfway across the state, he orders the gathering of the boats along the delaware river. he sends men forward to the river to start confiscating all the boats. for 70 miles north of philadelphia, everything that floats is being gathered by the army so the british will not have any boats left across the river. washington, when he arrives in trenton, the army will begin crossing the delaware river, that is the retreat crossing, as i like to phrase it. very important to save the army from the british pursuit. that is december 7 into december crosses.he army the last boats are crossing, on the summer eight -- the super eight, they arrive in trenton. that protects the american capital of

the pilot, 37 year old michael murphy, of franklinville, new jersey, died in the crash. no one else was aboard the medical chopper registered to the university of pennsylvania crashed behind a postal facility on quigley road in new castle around noon yesterday. it went down about a mile south of new castle airport. authority say murphy was on a training flight from atlantic city international airport. >> sounded like it was out of gas. it sounds like the propellers weren't moving, like it was struggling, i looked up, i seen it go straight down. at the last minute, it went off the course. >> fa a and delaware state police are also joining the investigation. no one was hurt on the ground. >> fire crews have contained volatile flammable gas from a rail car in gloucester county. officials say a faulty valve caused the leak from a tanker car at the pure land industrial park in logan township. hundreds were evacuated and hundreds of workers of the industrial park were sent home early. children at a day care center were sent to a hotel. one person suffered a non-life threatening

take a look at the scene happening at midnight west deptford near mile marker 19 on the new jersey new jersey turnp. it involved 350 people on board and a jackknifed tractor-trailer. the turned on the side, and the cab ended up in the wooded area off the road. 33 passengers were transported to area hospitals. take a look at the video. you can see the ambulances bringing in the passengers, some with serious injuries, but most of them were okay for the most part, some them were talking on the phone, many of them able to walk, but they did have to be treated for the injuries sustained in the accident, listen to the passengers describe the moments just before and after the crash. >> it was all happening so fast, the bus was traveling whatever speed, you feel the tap, you feel the hit, somehow the second hit and all was flying and everybody goes flying, if you were on the right side you feel the impact of it, the bus and everyone flying from the left side down on you. >> and one of the passengers said there were scary moments after the crash, i asked her if there were any concerns about a f
