new book called "writing to save a life: the louis till file". notice i call that a book which it is but i did not refer to it as a novel or a biography or a memoir or collection of short stories or essays although he has written books, now around 20 that represent those various genres. "writing to save a life: the louis till file" doesn't fall neatly into a category, more of a few of them and perhaps, i was thinking about this, we all know sometimes fiction tells the deeper truth than any other form of literature and there are certain fictional elements to it too and i was thinking perhaps he has relied on these multiple literary styles and tactics if you will because that is the only way to get to the deep truth about what happened to them for 12. he was a black man in the armed forces in world war ii, he was executed in italy on trumped up charges of rape and murder. the story of up to 12 is a historical footnote through the past 75 years, the story of his son emmett till, lynched in 1965 at age 14 for allegedly flirting with a white woman in mississippi is far better known at that story is rightfully understood as a deep and horrifying stain
