check out the white out conditions near new mexico. new mexico is under a winter storm warning. more than six inches of snow has been reported. karl parker is joining me now. how is it looking right now? >> we have issues in new mexico that will be moving into texas, but most of the country is in good shape, a far cry from yesterday when there was so much rain and severe weather through georgia late yesterday towards the rush hour. there were not a lot of people on the roads. serious problems. there is a look at what's going on right now. the storm has moved out to the north and the east. here's a look back at the damage in georgia. we had 50 trees knocked down and 17 power poles. thousands of people without power. tens of thousands without power. there was structural damage as well. this was probably straight line wind damage and not a tornado, but a scary night and again that storm is zipped out to the north and the east. the only thing we are watching is lingering snow in new mexico. we heard about a closure along the texas-new mexi

because the state police, new mexico d.o.t. says a lot of the roads east of the city look just like this. they're slick and slippery and because of these biting temperatures that has really caused all of this from the snow and the rain that we had yesterday. it is really frozen over. they say it is jam packed and they have a lot of trucks that are stranded east of albuquerque. that's where the big pileup is and that's why they won't let any drivers, trucks or commuters get on i-40 eastbound and head east to texas because it's just clogged up. a lot of people are having to either wait it out until the closures are lifted or they have to find alternate routes, especially for morning commuters. they're going to have to stay off the interstate and use other arteries, street, city roads just to get to their destination this morning. you know, keep in mind, new mexico is a state that sees about 300 days of sunlight. sunny. it's always sunny here and, you know, when you get these types of elements. snow, rain, very cold temperatures,

a winter storm that started sunday is continuing into this morning in new mexico with forecasts of up to 11 inches in some places. travel is hazardous on many highways and interstates with some of them now closed. snow could reach as far south as the mexican border.

i've seen some areas with more than two feet of snow in the mountains of new mexico. eastern colorado, northwestern kansas, some of the blizzard conditions which have been going on there and the rains pulling out. and some strong thunderstorms in east texas and now down into louisiana approaching the mississippi valley. a lot of this rain is going to stay north of us but we've got that threat for at least a few showers through midday today. you see the cold turns if green to blue so we're seeing a little snow there. there's some of the rain showers with us through midday but mainly north of town. this afternoon up in pennsylvania, new york state. so mostly cloudy. 50ish for the highs. could see a couple of showers here overnight tonight pushing across the region. tomorrow morning sprinkles mainly north. better chance of rain, though, by midday. in fact, maybe mid- to late morning coming in, waves of showers throughout the day tomorrow as highs tomorrow will shoot toward the 60-degree mark in many spots. a warmer day. so today upper 40s, maybe low 50s. a few showers th
