medicaid is a lifeline for so many that i represent in my beautiful rural district in new mexico. and you mentioned the impact of medicaid cuts on hospitals. i want to focus a little bit more on the impact on rural hospitals. more than 700 rural hospitals, one third, of all rural hospitals, not just in your state, but across the country on to bring closing. and many-- maybe most of those are in republican districts. for example, in marion meaks district, a hospital closed. and in a district, health systems between 15 and 18% of their revenue from medicaid. can you elaborate a bit more on why medicaid is so important for rural r rural hospitals and what the impact will be with the proposed republican medicaid cuts? >> medicaid is vital to our republican hospitals for really two driving reasons. one, people coming in the door have a way to pay which we've talked about. also, when individuals have access to preventive care, then they don't end up in the hospital and they're going to have lower cost access to the hospitals are not burdened with constant input into their emergency depa
