i mean, right now if you average the qualifying polls for the cnbc debate including tonight's new poll"wall street journal," both chris christie and rand paul are at 2.86% remember, the cutoff is 2.5%. can again, we don't know how many polls are going to come out in the next two days before the qualifying period ends. any polls that come out from those major organizations will be factored into this average. but if chris christie and rand paul keep getting numbers like the numbers they got today, they keep getting 1% or 2% in the polls, they are both within a hair's breadth of not making it onto the stage for the next debate. so it's one thing to watch. really, just for the next few days. for national polls that come out tomorrow and wednesday. if rand paul or chris christie come in at 2% or 1% or worse in any polls that come out tomorrow and tuesday, bee-boo, bee-boo, that is an emergency for those campaigns. somebody's also apparently pulling the fire alarm in the bottom tier of the democratic race for president. jim webb's campaign just announced tonight that he's going to be holding

so, let's start here with some of the reaction from trump regarding this new poll. what have we heard, hallie? >> reporter: he says he's surprised, tamron. he went on hugh hewitt's radio show saying he's surprised to see the slippage in the polls. he actually thinks he's doing better in iowa, but the numbers, of course, tell a different story. you talked about the new bloomberg poll that's out this morning. let's look deeper into the numbers, though. talking about momentum since august, ben carson has risen about ten points in that poll. trump, meanwhile, dropping back about four points. so, if you look at that, he's moving in the wrong direction. carson, meanwhile, hoping to capitalize on a lot of this talk about his surge, about his momentum. he's out with a big ad buy today in the four early states, iowa, new hampshire, south carolina, nevada. these two ads, which we got a first look at on the "today" show this morning, show one, he and his wife, candy, sitting together casually, a very inspirational ad showing the crowds that carson's bringing in. the other is ca

for the first time this election season, a new poll has republican presidential candidate donald trump not in the lead. dr. ben carson is now taking the edge over donald trump according to a new quinnipiac poll released today. carson takes the lead with 28% support among likely iowa republican caucus participants, compared to trump's 20%. quinnipiac polled 574 likely iowa caucus-goers between october 14-october 20. following carson being named the new g-o-p frontrunner, trump tweeted this on his personal account. the tweet speculates that iowa voters have "issues in the brain". the tweet and issued an "apology". trump said a young intern accidentally did a retweet and the intern apologizes. after a summer surge, carly fiorina is hoping for a fall flourish on the campaign. so far, she's not seeing the results. but it's not for a lack of effort in iowa. the republican presidential hopeful is spending a lot of time here. the new quinnipiac university poll out today has her tied for sixth in iowa. kwwl's jerry gallagher sat down with fiorina to get a sense of what's driving her campaign ri

the new poll did not deliver the best news for carly fiorina's campaign. but she still has hope in iowa. all she has to do is look back four years ago this month. a survey of republicans in october 2011 had mitt romney and herman cain in front. rick santorum was in seventh place -- and he ended up winning the 2012 iowa caucuses. right now, fiorina is in sixth her during a campaign stop in eastern iowa to learn what's driving her campaign.
