but there are some good >> this is newly constructed within the last month or so, new sidewalk. what can you tell us about this? >> as i said earlier, spikas a hearty urban tree. they have aggressive roots and sometimes they daniel the infrastructure, with the fica tree, we can repair the sidewalk around it, it doesn't mean we str to remove the tree. but sometimes if the roots are everywhere, the numb of roots to cut or shave, would render the tree unstable, in this case, we were able to keep the tree, a nice upright ficas tree. we expanded the base. and we keep the necessary path of travel for pedestrians but if we open this up so we don't cut a big root. we try to preserve as many roots as we can. >> the path of travel, the city has a minimum travel standard, i believe it is 48 inches. >> it is. >> we easily maintained thap about we see where trees encroach on that or are tripping hazards. >> we never want to go less than 48 inches in the path of travel, ideally, it is more than that, but if it is scrult of losing or keeping a tree we'll shrink down to whatever we need to. >> l

new utilities, new sidewalks. we purchased the land from the navy at a cost of $117 million, the cost borne by the developer. we will strengthen the island. 105 acres of the island will be significantly strengthened, as well as improvements to the perimeter for seismic reasons. there is also a significant plan for protecting against sea level rise. both of these have been in the works for five years, since our sea level strategy has been indoors. we raised the island about 2 feet above what exists now downtown, with accommodations to make changes in the future. this chart shows you in graphic form what we are doing to the island to protect against sea level rise. the mean high tide now is plus 5.5 feet from the low tide. the big flood elevation theme -- the flood plain is above 5.2 feet. today, it is plus nine to 12 feet from the low high tide. the grade would be three to 6 feet above that. the perimeter height would be further, up to 17 feet, with the opportunity to go further in future years. downtown, for insta

here they are putting in a new sidewalk, a wonderful thing to do. unfortunately there is no alternate means of getting around so people have to walk out in the street around the concrete mixing truck to get around. i mentioned earlier about the grade changes. the slopes of san francisco streets are a real issue throughout our disabled access world. this slide is meant to illustrate that typically somewhere along the front of a building, there is a point where the floor of the interior of the building meets the grade outside. at some point that's likely to happen. and in this case, it meets it right where the door is and they did a good job of locating the grade where it meets the floor. it's a little bit messy but they are doing a reasonable job of trying to comply. level landings: the building code says it should be level so you can come to a stop when you get in the door. that can often be a problem in san francisco where the sidewalk is existing and it's hard to have fully level landings. this is moderately compliant with those requirements, look

the 2006 plan proposes wide sidewalks and prominence, all supporting the overriding goals for pedestrians and green at new san francisco neighborhoods. the 2011 plan proposes decreasing sidewalk with by approximately 39% as the average. this reduction in sidewalk with the occurs across the board. it involves each of the three proposed street types. the 2006 plan was nominated for an aia german design honor award in 2009. the 2011 plan has so fundamentally unchanged it cannot be thought any longer the same plan that won the award. i will follow up with additional comments on other matters. for all the reasons i just described in exhaustive length, there is no new analysis of impact. some of this may turn out to be less. some may turn out to be more significant. some may add to the already exhaustive list of unavoidable impacts identified in this eir. i conclude in support of commissioner sugaya that without any revised project description, this is inaccurate and incomplete. i will pick up after i hear from my fellow commissioners. commissioner delcarlo: good evening. thank you to all the members of the pub

same times, he gave a $25,000 bail to a man who was riding his bike on the sidewalk without a bell, and that is a crime in troy, new york. clearly, there are lots of little kids in the suburbs riding their bikes on the sidewalk without a bell, but this guy was a homeless guy, so they arrested him. they brought him before the court. hank gave him a $25,000 bail. he did not have $25,000, so he sat in jail for eight days, and he came back and pleaded guilty. this is really the regular person that is symbolic of ordinary justice. there is a woman who has five kids. she is a nurse. one beautiful spring day she is sitting on the stoop, and she is reading of friends hair, and the police say, do believe -- she is braiding of friends hair, and the police say, and you realize there is a no loitering sign, and she offered to get off, and they arrest her. they bring her before the judge, and they give her a $25,000 bail. she is never given an attorney, and she sits in jail for eight days. she has a relative take care of her five kids. eventually, she comes before the judge. the judge says, we will give you a couple hundred dol

he had a stack of clippings about what the new deal had done in his area and walked around while he showed me sidewalks and parks and schools and gardens and camps that had been done. he said, i didn't notice. then he became mayor. it's exactly the kind of thing we want. this is or was the living new deal site about a couple months ago. it's much denser now. san francisco county is the best documented of all the california counties. we think that all of california will look like san francisco now. when you begin putting in the work of the civilian conservation core, you find it's everywhere. we are talking about a lot of agencies. roosevelt loved building things. he was the lord of the manor at hyde park. it shows roosevelt in his convertible. if you visit there, you could see he could drive using the upper part of his body. he's pointing to the plans of the hyde park. he was quite a passable architect. once he became president, he was able to build a lot more. even though henry loose was generally opposed to roosevelt. we ran a double page on his to show how the work he had done. i couldn't get it all

new better streets standards. that means not just in terms of sidewalk widths and bicycle infrastructure, but ecological function in terms of storm water and so forth. the major transportation investment on the project is the realignment of the m oceanview light rail line. it currently runs along a busy corridor, with major pedestrian safety issues. we probably consider it an overburdened stop. people overflow into 19th ave. it is a dangerous condition. we understand about 90% of the writer ship comes from the west side of 19th avenue. -- of the ridership comes form throm the west side of 19th avenue. this relocates to the west side of 19th avenue in a generous public plaza that would be a major stop. there would be plenty of room for people to board and wait for trains, as well as by a cup of coffee and have a public gathering space. this realignment offers other operational opportunities for the mta, which will hear about more in detail. it offers the opportunity to send trains back down the existing alignment, as well as set up future improvements and investments in this part of the city, including an extension
