i talked to >>> on kpix5 news at 6:30, a live look from smyrna beach. nicole crosses over florida's east coast as a category 1 hurricane early this morning. it's since moved further inland weakening to a tropical storm. many are told nicole may cause coastal flooding, strong winds, heavy rains, and even tornadoes. we are joined by cbs reporting jason allen at vero beach. i see the winds and waves picking up. >> reporter: good morning. the ocean is still very rough but thankfully the rain has stopped. we are left with the gusty winds on the back side of the storm, the dry side of the storm, as the main part moves quickly across the state. high winds from nicole led to blown out transformers in melbourne and brought traffic lights on the streets. boats were rocked like toys. the storm made landfall south of vero beach around 3:00 a.m. wednesday storm surge caused part of this parking lot to collapse. sheriffs deputies went door to door at this sea side condo complex evacuating residents. >> with the storm surge coming in and the high winds we are fearful
