we're on top of breaking news right now in south tampa. where police are investigating after they say a man shot at officers, forcing them to shoot back, it happened on cherokee avenue..that's not far from himes, just south of gandy. 10 news reporter sarah hollenbeck is live there. sarah, a police spokesperson says the officers had a close call and were forced to pull the trigger. yes, this man shot at them twice as soon as they pulled up to a house on this street. the first time the gun didn't go off, the man went back inside to reload or grab another gun then fired at the officers again -- this time barely missing one of the officers and hitting a protective shield he was holding. holding. it all started at 3am when officers came to this house at 3312 cherokee for a domestic dispute between the man and a woman who lives inside. after the man shot an officer's shield, the officers shot back-- killing him in the front yard. the woman who was inside wasn't injured in the shooting and is expected to be ok. but officers tell us it's scary how

we're on top of breaking news out of tampa this morning where a deputy shot a man late last night. it happened around 10:45 at the windwood oaks apartment complex. that's on north north of fletcher. 10 news reporter emerald morrow is live at the scene. emerald, fill us in on what happened. - allison, pretty bizarre story out of this apartment complex this morning. - we just spoke with deputies on the scene not too long ago, and they say everything started when someone living here called 911 abouta man outside frantically waving around a semi- automatic handgun. - here's a better look at the scene. - deputies say when they got here.things didn't get any better - they say they tried to get the man to put the gun down, but he kept waving it around - that's when he got really aggressive. sheriff's officials say he was yelling and even pointed the gun at the four deputies on the scene...and that's when they say they had no choice but to shoot. - we just found out who this guy is...his name is jeffrey casale and he's 27 years old. - he's still alive...in the hospital trying to recover - a

tampa is competing against atlanta, new orleans, miami and los angeles. and the hometown effort has some heft behind it. after all, we've hosted the super bowl four times before... and, raymond james stadium is about to get a 100-million dollar facelift. the decision should come sometime in may. 3 3 ((vanessa/2-shot)) if you live in florida.. you're going to see alligators.. they're everywhere..((russell)) but where we draw the line.. is when they crawl up to the door of an elementary school! thursday afternoon.. the kids at "geneva classical academy" were met by this guy as they were getting out of school a nine foot.. eleven inch alligator! the school called in a trapper.. and it took him awhile to get the gator under control.. the school set up cones.. and kept the kids inside their classrooms while this went down.. on its facebook page - the school wrote "our students received a good polk county education today - how to trap a nine foot eleven inch gator"! 3 ((vanessa)) justin bieber... the kardashians... taylor swift... and the pope.
