this is a very noisy celebration, very noisy new year celebration. we're here at second and market. just about stopped raining. the parade started 45 minutes ago. as you can see behind me there's still a lot of people waiting to go up the parade route. this parade dates back to 1858 in san francisco. organizers expect close to a million people to come to san francisco to celebrate, even with all this rain and cold weather. more than 5,000 people participate in this celebration each year. many of them since children. there are 26 floats and lots and lots of marching bands, and of course fireworks. at it the year of the rabbit but the actual calendar year is 4708. we spoke to many people, some coming from as far away as hollywood, who braved the rain to celebrate. siena wong tells us how to say happy new year in cantonees. >> i expect to see the fireworks, i hope it's a good turnout. >> on a rainy day? >> don't bother me. >> the first time, can you believe it? i been living in san francisco 27 years, and the first time i dom the chinese new year's. >> the very first time my daughter h

police officer johannes mehserle on new year's day in 2009. mehserle, by the way, is serving a two-year sentence for the shooting. >>> a taxi cab driven into a crowd outside a nightclub early this morning injuring more than two dozen people. san diego police say at least 25 people were hurt. six are listed in critical condition tonight. one young woman was reportedly pinned against the wall by the cab, and had her legs severed. investigators say the driver either fell asleep or passed out, but they do not believe alcohol was involved in the accident. the cab hit the crowd at a speed of about 15 miles an hour. after the collision, an angry crowd attacked the cab driver. >> initially it was a melee. because when the taxi cab went into the building, there were some people that were obviously upset. probably intoxicated. and they took it out on the taxi cab driver. >> the cab driver was taken to the hospital with a broken nose. at this point police say there are no plans to arrest that driver. >>> coming up next at 6:00, from the football field to

topping our news, it appears the body of the man suspected of kidnapping a four-year-old central california boy has been found. early this morning, an employee with the delta water authority spotted a body floating in the canal near patterson. the stanislaus county sheriff's office says the description of the body and the clothing match that of jose rodriguez. he is suspected of kidnapping giuliani from his grandmother's arms last month. last night, family and friends celebrated the boy's short life. >> although michael's life was short, it was very joyous. and filled with love each and every day. >> giuliani's body was found in that canal february 1. onces say they saw a car matching the description of the kidnapper's plunge into the canal the night of the kidnapping. >>> a parolee is under arrest tonight suspected in the first homicide of the year in a north bay city. found the body of 26-year-old katherine gilihan. officers arrested her boyfriend, adam at a nearby taco bell. disa and jilihand lived together. they aren't saying how the woman died. >>> near the scene of that murder, police

people are celebrating the lunar new year that started on thursday. that means temples and other places across the country are not only packed, but in a very festive mood. ♪ this is the year of the rabbit so representations of the oriental zodiac sign are everywhere. these statues welcome visitors to a temple in central beijing. it is believed they bring good luck. inside the temple grounds, many stalls have been set up. people perform traditional dances and chinese operas. acrobats and puppeteers put on shows. millions of chinese are expected to visit temples during the new year holiday week. in beijing, celebrations are being held at more than 30 sites, including streets near tiananmen square. >>> a 200 meter skyscraper in northeastern china has been gutted by fire. police reports suggest it was triggered by fireworks celebrating the lunar new year. the fire occurred in the early hours of thursday in a complex that includes a five-star hotel and a condominium. the state run news agency says fire engines struggled to contain the blaze as their water c
