area from 6:00 tonight through 6:00 tomorrow night. this does encompass connecticut, new jersey and new york city metropolitan area including the long island area, as well. now, not only is it the snow that's a big factor. it also happens to be the very gusty winds, 20 to 30 miles per hour sustained winds gusts up to 50. and in addition, some of this snow is translating on over into rain. so we do also have a coastal flood advisory in effect for the jersey shoreline. now, while we have been experiencing delays here i have noticed that a few of the airlines are now up to about an hour in delay as opposed to an hour and a half earlier and some of the flights have been canceled. so we talked to a spokesman for sfo. here's what he had to say. >> most of the flights from the washington, d.c. airports canceling. we are anticipating cancellations and delays to the new york metro area airports such as newark, jfk, still unfolding a little bit there. so still remains to be seen. >> reporter: so what we can clearly assess from all this is, yes, there are cancellations. right now there are delays right now. but this is a major storm system that's aff

so there your winter storm advisory still up towards philadelphia area, new york and long island.e could see 2 to five inches of snow and up towards new england where they have just seen storm after storm after storm. and this one no exception. so taking a look at the totals,al snowfall 6 to 12 that could be conservative as we head into friday. we could see 18, maybe two feet of snow. we have to watch this. and the winds. these are sustained winds. we could see wind gusts of 50 to 60 miles per hour for a long duration of time across the coast line. so even though the rain and the snow may be gone, we're going to be dealing with wind gusts well into the weekend. unfortunately as this storm just kind of hovers offshore. so, we will certainly continue to monitor it. if i could give you a silver lining here as we get into the weekend, saturday, temperatures in the 50s. sunday, even into the 60's around d.c. so, any of that snow that's on the ground will start to melt. spring is officially two weeks away. back to you. >> neil: isn't that nice of you? you bury the lead. janice dean than

the storm itself is bringing snow flurry activity to the new york area. snow event here in new york, but up the coast towards boston, we could get several inches. already reporting one to three inches in and around the boston area. you saw the wind gusts. we're going to see consistent wind gusts in excess of 30 miles per hour all along the coast, all those vulnerable areas, coastal new jersey, connecticut, long island that were hit hard by hurricane sandy, all those natural barriers are gone. so coastal flooding certainly and those winds and the beach erosion is going to continue. so there you have your winter storm advisories. look at those sustained winds. we're talking about 24, 23 along the coast and gusts 40 to 50, even 60 miles per hour, especially as we head up towards the new england area. there is your morning travel delays. certainly if you live across the northeast, you want to call ahead. but the storm itself is going to linger offshore. we'll see some snow flurry activity and some winds and then perhaps a few inches of snow west of boston. bac
