i am in the new york newsroom here at the fox news channel. we will have more.-back greta. >> we are going to talk about the budget and the debt. why does anybody give a darn about the deficit and the debt and what it means. when they talk about the deficit, both sides, the white house and congress, they say it will be $1.60 trillion. what they are saying is that if the government spends $1, the only take 90 cents in taxes, that is a 10 cent shortfall. they have to borrow 10 cents each year. each year, the deficit, the shortfall keep adding up. that is the deficit. it adds up to what we call the national debt. according to the white house, the total within 10 years will grow to $9.10 trillion. congress is saying that it will grow by $7.10 trillion. a lot of money. that is the debt. what is the key question? why you, why does anybody care? and lots of people say that we can live with these numbers. here is why. i was horrified to store this, the fed would come after us. maybe 76 or 66 depending on the estimates -- 76% of the country's debt will be equivalent to 7

david lee miller joins us from the new york newsroom.orting that this air space was not controlled by air traffic controllers and that these pilots were on visual flight control because apparently the level from the surface of the hudson to 1,100 they switch to visual site control that the air traffic control relies on pilots. why now are we looking at air traffic control? >> you explained it well. to crystallize the point, 1,100 feet the pilots have the responsibility of looking for other aircraft. not the responsibility of the tower. so the aircraft were presumably below that ceiling and the pilots were supposed to look out for other aircraft. whatever the reason, something went terribly wrong here and this collision resulted. that said, now it has been revealed that two employees working at the tower have been put on administrative leave with pay. the reason for that is simple my a phone call. it has now been made public that one of the air traffic controllers, the one in contact with the piper aircraft, the single-engine aircraft, wa

when we got word in the newsroom today, there had been another crash on the hudson river here in new york. we thought, not again. but there was. today, a tour helicopter collided with a small plane, and this time, there were no survivors. just down the river from where us airways 1549 safely landed. in today's crash, all nine people aboard the two aircraft were killed. we begin with abc's stephanie sy. stephanie, good evening. >> reporter: good evening, david. the mayor of new york is calling this tragedy on the hudson, not a single survivor. we have learned now there's a temporary flight restriction over this stretch of the hudson as salvage crews doing the very difficult work of looking for wreckage and bodies. against a clear blue sky, the mangled helicopter plunged into the hudson river, astounding on job onlookers. >> something hit the blades and the planes went down. >> reporter: the helicopter carrying five italian tourists and a pilot had just taken off for manhattan on a sightseeing tour. when it collided with a small plane. the piper aircraft was carrying three people, including

newsroom. i'm fredricka whitfield. one day after a small plane collided with a new york sight-seeing helicopter, a section of aircraft has just been pulled out of the hudson river. also recovered, two more bodies. cnn national correspondent susan canada yoltty has more. >> sunday morning divers pulled up a fourth victim from the area where the debris is concentrated. the remains were carefully placed onto a stretcher and transferred to a waiting police boat. as additional bodies are being brought to the surface, they'll be taken to the medical examiner's office for identification and autopsies. divers also hoisted to the surface a sizable piece of metal, part of the helicopter's fuselage. the water is murky and the current is strong, making it tough for divers to find the small plane's wreckage. they can barely see two feet in front of them. sonar is helping. the ntsb is spending its first full day tracking down more witnesses and looking for possible video of the crash from buildings overlooking the hudson. >> this is a tragedy. having two aircraft collide over the hudson river and having no survivors is something that

newsroom." ththththththththththh >>> let's do this. a look at the hudson river where right now divers are searching for the small plane that collided with a tourist helicopter over the weekend. it happened between new york and new jersey. the search is extremely difficult in the murky water. let's see where things stand right now in the search, in the investigation. our susan candiotti are where the tangled chopper wreckage was brought up. susan, do divers have a good idea about where in the water the plane actually is right now? >> they tell us that they think they do, tony. they've been back in the water for about four hours now. and they believe that they have pinpointed by using sonar and other means to try to find the exact location of where the wreckage is of that small plane. let's slide off me for a moment here and take a look at the motorized graph that is one of two that is out there at the present time. they always have two dive teams working. and we saw not long ago a couple of divers go down into the water down below. it's anywhere from 30 to 40 to 50 to 60 feet out there. they think this is the general area east of where the helicopter was found where the small plane may be located. of cou

newsroom," of course, with susan lisovicz. >>> you know, another bank could be headed for failure, but a buyer -- a buyer -- may already be lined up. cnnmoney.com's poppy harlow has our "breakdown" she's in new yorkny. this is a story we've been following since late last night. we're talking about colonial bank, it's a southern bank, a regional bank. dow jones reporting that bb&t, another regional bank in the south, will buy colonial bank. the fdic, we called them, and they won't confirm it. and bb&t not commenting on it either. very similar to colonial, a lot of business in the mortgage sector. colonial bank which by the way has 355 branches across the south is on the brink of collapse. the judge froze assets in a bank of america dispute with about $1 billion in assets of mortgage assets. its mortgage lending and accounting practices, tony, also right now under federal criminal investigation for the past few weeks. it's also one of two banks that was raided earlier this month by federal agents. a lot of questions about the health of this bank and what will happen to it. >> well, poppy, if colonial collapses, how big of a bank failure are we talking about here? >> you're very good on say "if" bec
