new york that requested this. it wasn't the federal government. so i understand we have a federal oversight role but itve was the city of new york and the state of new york that asked to use this emergency space which by the way has been used previously ass emergency shelter and other emergency purposes including during super storm sandy so i think it is disingenuous for folks this morning to be representing this as somehow something other than it is. there's also been a lot of misrepresentation as the mayor of new york's statements and but forward in this the mayor made thesee comments with respect to the use of the site and that is factually untrue that i think we all know that this isn't what the hearing is about. it's being held the week that our colleagues crossed the aisle unable to pass the federal budget and will shut the government down and this really is a publicity stunt. look at the posters in the room. when i walked in this morning the staff were putting up these posters. this isn't about the people of new york. i have great respect for the people of brooklyn and new york. this is a humanitarian crisis. this is a serious immigration iss
