cheryl: at starbucks at the new york stock exchange, that always comes in handy.much. appreciate it. well, a huge issue for investorsed today are those disappointing manufacturing numbers in china, what i was talking about a few moments ago. it's raising concerns the country's economy will weaken. but in davos, liz claman spoke with a global business leader who says he does not think china will slow in 2014. he is carlos gohen, meese san motor company -- nissan company president and ceo. liz? liz: cheryl, for people who criticize davos and say nothing ever gets accomplished here, it was here in davos where the idea of building out an entire electrical vehicle charging network for a whole nation took hold. the country was israel, the company who helped make it happen, nissan renault, and the ceo, carlos ghosn. wonderful to have you. you've been coming here for close to a dozen years if not more. >> yes. liz what do you look at this year as the most important thing you need to accomplish for the company? >> i think connection with new emerging markets, for example,

[closing bell ringing] taking a pop because of cold weather. we did go down. intraday we did beat the october third 186 to the downside even though market may end a little above that i should say. we did go down 187. that beats in a negative way the worst decline that we've seen in three months which was october 3rd. bells are ringing on wall street. not a good way to start

let's head to the floor of the new york stock exchange and nicole petallides.ady cats knocking down stocks today? >> it is interesting. the jobs report, we made it through that. that was obviously miserable. we had a tough 2014 so far. goldman sachs came out today saying the markets are a little frothy, gone up too far too fast. lofty by any measure. they see u.s. equities as underweight so they lowered it to underweight. they see a 10% drawdown, basically says, and i was reading through the nights, the federal reserve last year pumped everything up to unprecedented stimulus program. now we're comparing levels we're seeing in bubble territory much like the tech bubble. this is not good news if you're a bull out there but other people say, we could have a great year this year. back to you. dennis: i'm going to say it, nicole, stocks ain't no bubble. thank you very much. lori: you're an eternal bull, dennis. i would like to add, dennis lockhart who is a non-voting fed firm is out with comment who would support continuing of the taper. that is perhaps we're seeing

let's go to lauren simonetti at the new york stock exchange. why is the market so excited? ke 3d printing will be theestory of 2014. i do want to point out volume is late on this stock. i have raised the price target to $100 from $81 on 3d systems. we are excited about next week, saying we will see a lot of new products we will like. also you have to remember for the consumer part of the business, it is about 10% of 3d business overall revenue, that will start to grow dramatically. you also have other companies up about 11% today. volume for all of these stocks are relatively light. cheryl: thank you very much, we will see you soon. fiat pushing the pedal to the metal it comes to chrysler. pushing a 42% stake of the car company does not already own it from united auto workers for 4.35 billion. what does it mean for the future of the chrysler brand? joining us now, kelly blue book executive director. does anything change for chrysler now that fiat is the sole owner of the company? >> it becomes a more agile company. that is its most important thing. there is now an ability to

let's get riggt the our floor show, traders at the new york stock exchange, the che roup and, of course, the nymex, ben willis standing on the floor of the new york stock exchange. we have got some economic data today, it was okay. but that is what janet yellen, our next fed chairwoman, is going to be looking at, is certainly how the economy is stacking up. how are you feeling about the econ data you're getting so far? >> i have to take a look back into asia first, and some of the economic data we saw coming out of china was less than stellar, and that's a continuation of a theme, unfortunately. china's a very, very important economy in the lynch. pin of our success going forward, and it continues to appear to be slowing down, and that's not a good sign. that had a direct effect on the japanese market which took it on the chin, down over 2% at one point. that all, again, goes into the effect of the currencies that affect the market. so while not to get too deep into baseball in this discussion, the markets right now are trading on the central banks and the effects they're going to have

trailedders standing by at -- traders standing by at the new york stock exchange and, of course, the x. mark newton at the new york stock exchange, let's talk about the big swing that we're seeing on the dow, mark. what do you make of it? >> real roller coaster of a session, we tried to move higher, fail ld, tried to move lower, and that's an area to focus on, and that's right near 1765 for the s&p. until we break those and really break the broader uptrends are in place really for the last year or so, it's tough to make much of this pullback just yet. if anything, we started to see real signs of fear just in the last couple days. the vixx has been up over 50%, i think, since last tuesday. so in a very short period of time we've seen implied volatility start to rise, also the put to call for equities spike briefly over one. those are a couple of things that suggest, yes, there are some signs of fear in this market. for now the short-term trend is still down, so we're going to see more signs of stabilization. the s&p probably needs to get back up over 1810 at least in the near term to s

go down to nicole petallides on floor of the new york stock exchange.market fears are continuing to rattling the markets but we're hanging in there. >> there is a lot of focus on emerging markets last week or so, definitely. turkey obviously pulling an emergency meeting there. dow jones industrials back into the green as you noted. now up 14 points. about 150-point swing. started off in the green and moved up to 15,938 and swung into negative territory down into 15,783 but caterpillar helping along. nasdaq down 3/4 of a percent and s&p down .2 of a point. caterpillar came out with quarterly numbers that beat analyst expectations. they gave a good outlook for 2014 and all buyback announcements as well. you put that all together and cost-cutting moves which caterpillar is up almost 4 1/2% at 89.92. so that is helping things along. back to you. tracy: nicole, thank you very much. >> thanks. tracy: stocks missed after last week's big selloff with the dow posting slight gains. as actually noted the dow is down 11 points. turbulence is in emerging markets is

moving a number of stocks today, nicole petallides watching all of this from the floor of the new york stock exchange area did what do you have for us, nicole? nicole: looking at the airline stocks as the transports move higher. the airlines, delta, southwest airlines, american airlines, all moving to new highs, a lot of apparels, united continental, southwest airlines up 2%, delta gaining. jpmorgan and deutsche bank speaking positively about the group talking about consolidation in mergers, they will reap the benefits of that even more so here in the new year. coupled with a better economy not only here at home, but also globally. that brings me over to goodyear tire. the price target now $29 up from $26, they believe the guidance will surprise to the upside, the stock hit a new high, and right now a gain of about 3%. showing you the gains we have seen. cheryl: with the s&p 500 on a course for losses with five out of six trading days an so far ts year, how long is this slump going to last? traders standing by the new york stock exchange, cme group and the nymex. boy thing i see winning are the dow t

our reporter has more now on how trader played out today from the new york stock exchange. >> reporter: it was not a good day for the market so we ended off the lows for the day. it started overnight when chinese manufacturing numbers came in below expectations. china december economic data has been weaker than expected for a few weeks. why does china matter so much? emerging markets like china are an important part of the global growth picture. if that growth is below expectations investors are going to light up on their exposure and that's what they're doing. not surprisingly, chinese stocks were among the weakest performs. other emerging markets stocks were weak. u.s. stocks declined in materials, energy and industrial sectors. while defensive sectors like utilities and telecom were very little changed. not surprisingly, the dollar weakened, gold rallied, and the yield on the 10-year treasury dropped. it's been a very strange year for stocks. there's lots of divergences. the dow transports are up over 2% and the nasdaq and russell 2,000 are also up fractionally. it's been a big cap

wendy gillette is at the new york stock exchange with that and more.ood morning, wendy. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. the federal reserves two-day policy meeting begins today. invests are bracing for what is yet to be another mark selloff if the fed continues the long bond buying stimulus program. the program was aimed at keeping long-term interest rates low for spending and economic growth. investor concerns about the fed sent u.s. stock indexes tumbling for a third consecutive session. the dow jones industrial average lost 41 points monday. the nasdaq was off 44 points. asian markets were mostly lower amid concerns over slower growth in china. tokyo's nikkei dropped a fraction. hong kong's hang seng also lost a fraction. >>> apple is losing some of its shine. the world's most valuable company sold a record number of iphones and ipads during the last quarter, but sales fell short of analysts' expectations. at one point, apple's stock fell almost 8% to $506 a year. in ended trading after the report. it was $700 per share two years ago. >>> fed

nicole petallides on the floor of the new york stock exchange. : i will tell you all the news here pertaining to the headlines, of course. the number had one headline would be jcpenney's is closing 33rforming stores. today, you have ubs cutting it five dollars. the inevitable turnaround for jcpenney that just doesn't seem to be happening. there, stills showed improvement. they're laying off 2000 workers. lori: making money with charles payne. charles: they have a new generation of what they call plow data in a box. it is essentially for the data centers. they have a system ownership where they will have more power and less money. i think it will be huge. it is one of these companies, you know, i like these networking places. they used to be really hot. i think it is really off to the races. i like the risk reward. it is one of these names. the last five years, every year, the revenue was down 20%. every year, the revenue should be up 20%. ashley: having a losing season. managing a first for a professional sports franchise. lori: wall street banks
