vikings: war of clans play free now. >>> joining us now again is david remnick of the new yorker, he spent days traveling with obama. you were talking before the break about what is unusual about this transition. one of the things we are seeing is a continual inability to absorb the news of steve bannon being the senior counselor to the president. we saw the white supremacist meeting this week. the trump transition continues to say this is misconstrued. they angrily dismiss any accountability for any of this stuff. they don't think they need to comment on it. what is your view on it? >> it's crazy. if you read breitbart, the sentiments expressed there, the degree of anti-semitic sentiment, he's responsible for that. it's his publication. it would be as if i were printing this in "the new yorker" during my period, then moved into government and said, what are you talking about? everything is normal. he's responsible for this. and donald trump is making him his senior counselor. he's putting him in the same office that david axelrod was in in the obama administration. he strolls from th

all i want is for every new yorker to have that opportunity. i have worked so hard to create jobs in new york and fight for jobs in every corner of the state. i am from brooklyn. sometimes i see that beautiful lady in the harbor with the torch. the torch symbolizes to most americans the american dream. if you ask the average american, what does this dream means you? they will put it simple. it means if i work hard, i will do better 10 years from now that i am today. if you elect me, citizens of new york, i will work every day to make that torch burn brighter. ms. long: he says this at the end of every debate and most other speeches he makes. he says he is fighting for the middle class. at the end of his last bit, he said with a middle class, the best is yet to come. that was six years ago. we're still waiting. the problem is it has not happened. he invented an imaginary middle-class family. if you have to talk to a real middle-class family, they would tell you they are not doing so well. wages have been stagnant for a decade. we have had record

it was an open secret that new yorkers were investing in slave ships and profits were enormous. many, many slave chips were kitted out in new york harbor and saved out of new york harbor out of a high of the harbor masters. if they were caught, the slave ship captains which didn't happen very often by the way because us had like a dozen ships. and the atlantic is pretty big. but if a slave ship happened to get caught which didn't happen often and brought back to new york to trial, it was very rare for this to get convicted, more than half the time they never made it to trial. they just allowed to better detail. judges and juries were notoriously lenient with them. they were convicted and sentenced to anything they would be sentenced to four months in jail . and in the whole long history of the new york involvement in the trans-atlantic slave trade, only one slave ship ever paid for it and that was because he had the bad luck to get caught when lincoln was in the white house and the civil war had started so the politics has shifted. >> watch this and other programs online at bookt

dinah was a cat of ours, in fact, a famous cat because the new yorker ran an interview of me back in001, and they were very insistent that dinah be -- they wanted to have a photograph, and they put a photograph in the new yorker of me holding dinah. they were very insistent about that. i actually got some hate mail -- [laughter] because, not from the dog people, but that was very shy, and she did not want to be photographed. and i got at least one letter from someone who said, you know, looking at the picture, looking at the eyes of that cat, that cat was, you know, did not want to be held. [laughter] and photographed. they shouldn't have done that to your cat. new yorkers really know how to get into the halloween spirit. from skeletons to batman, monsters to zombies, everyone was ready to party. monday night marked the 43rd year of the annual village halloween parade. new yorkers got down to michael jackson's thriller at a halloween parade in the west village. more than a hundred people joined in the spooky flash mob. here at home, "treat street" took over downtown summerlin. the shopping district hosted local families for a fun night of trick-or-treating, costume contests, games and dancing. and it was a perfect night to host the festivities outside. metro police and the clark county handing out candy to trick-or- treaters. there was also a "howl-o-ween dog costume contest." money raised during the contest was donated to the animal foundation. this young boy isn't wearing a halloween costume, isn't wearing a halloween st he's actually wearing his finest pilot gear, and for good reason. he's taking notes from the professionals, so one day he can be a pilot himself. fox's liz kotalik takes us on his be
