that's cleveland, washington dulles and here at newark. jetblue went so far to say we'll waive the fee for 15 airports and those change fees sometimes in the realm of $150 a pop are a huge source of revenue for the airlines. little wonder they did that because when you look at how many cancellations at this point, the number seems to be growing by the minute. right now according to flight aware, 536 flights have been canceled nationwide. that's smaller compared to others. bigger storms, hurricane sandy, for instance, had more than 12,000 flights canceled. for a holiday it's going to be important. more than 2700 flights are seeing delays. we've been talking to passengers coming in and out of the airport all morning and they are saying as long as we can get to our destination by tomorrow, by thanksgiving, we will be happy. but, of course, many of them are poing up in the airport bar trying tos pass the time. >> not such a bad way to pass the time. thank you very much, kayla tausche. you hope everybody gets to their destinations safely. as mi

most of the canceled flights have occurred in philadelphia, newark and la guardia airport. we go now to mark tamayo in the ktvu weather center with more on the impact of this storm along the atlantic. >> well, this is still a major storm producer and rain producer. this is the busiest travel day. this is the loop over the past hour. you get an idea of the progression and the snowfall coverage as you can pick out. but a lot of rainfall. right now in new york, central park, reporting some light rain. a current temperature of 41. this is the current situation right now. as far as the forecast, we will put the model into motion. you can see what happens later on today. this does move out to the north to the east. in fact, lingering rain showers out towards boston. that's later on today and then tomorrow for thanksgiving, it looks good with decreasing rain and snow coverage across this part of the country. >> we have the chance of a few showers offshore but it looks like the bulk arc tift activity is in this area. >> thank you, mark. >>> that storm is causing delays at sfo but s

the hub at newark is united. a lot of united flights getting cancelled, and united has said they'll waive the change fees. newark is one of the top airports with cancellations and delays in the tri-state area. 31 flights cancelled coming in, 31 flights cancelled going out, tied with philadelphia. and higher than la guardia. but so far, nationwide, they're picking up throughout the day. already 507 flights have been cancelled, that's according to flightaware, and that's on pace for the total cancellations that we saw on monday and tuesday. so definitely a number to watch as we go throughout the day and the weather starts to worsen. so far, 1,800 flights have been delayed, so if you are looking to get out tonight, then it's very likely that what you will see is a delay. but that doesn't necessarily mean your flight will be cancelled. something that we're going to watch is the weather worsening, that's when everyone expects the general manager of the airport here, newark, said 1.3 million people coming through betwe
