dc police are trying to find out who abandoned a newborn girl and left her out in the cold to die. the child was discovered on the front porch of a home on chapping street northeast, just blocks from the police station. delia has the story and the latest from the scene. >> reporter: the homeowner tells me that newborn baby girl was found on the concrete steps heading into his front yard. he said when she was discovered her body was cold and stiff. >>> even a knock on the door and somebody could take care of it. it was freezing last night. >> reporter: the only knock on his father's door was a frantic bang from his neighbor who discovered the newborn as he was walking to the store i don't hair matted to the skull. >> reporter: the newborn looked just hours old. she was nude and barely wrapped in a towel. crews rushed her to children's hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. >> if it was my child, i would be mad right now. whoever left that you should be ashamed. >> reporter: as daylight broke police returned to the scene and scoured front and back yards, searching for evidenc
