this puts him at odds with governor newsom, who is against prop 36. the governor says it will continue to fuel our prison overcrowding and would be too costly. mayor mehan spoke to nbc's robert honda on his way back from sacramento, just a short while ago, saying prop 36 is actually meant to force people into treatment. what do you think was the worst unintended consequence of 47? i think the biggest gap that we see today is a lack of accountability for engaging in treatment, and that takes the state, as we're doing now with the passage of prop one, investing in additional treatment capacities, counties have got to add treatment beds, but there also has to be consequences for committing crime. i talked to our police officers, small business owners, residents, particularly in a place like downtown san jose who are seeing the same people arrested over and over again, businesses victimized by the same low level crime and vandalism. and there's a real frustration out there, a feeling that there isn't really accountability for property crime. and there sho

and after the break, governor newsom announcing more prosecutors coming to alameda county. what it could mean for da pamela price. >> yet another blow to alameda county district attorney pamela price is already facing a recall over her handling of crimes. the california highway patrol now disputing prices claims that the agency only sent 11 cases for prosecution. the chp says, though, they've made more than 500 arrests and they claim made sent all of them over to the da's office. chp says 72% of those cases have been accepted. but there's been no charges filed. they claim the remaining 28% have been processed. any action taken ranges from conviction to dismissal of the 500 arrests. chp says 41% are felonies and 59% for misdemeanors. latest dispute comes as the governor has been pushing ahead with adding more attorneys to prosecute crime in alameda county attorneys with the california national guard have reached an agreement with the state department of justice to handle the cases generated from arrests made by chp. another state law enforcement currently deployed in the eas
