chris o'connell is in the newsroom with the breaking developments.is. >> reporter: information still coming into the newsroom. here's the latest. this doctor who was last seen -- treatintreating e bowl bowl la s in guinea arrived back to the united states a week ago. we're told in the last several days the patient road the subw subway, traveled in taxis even went bowling at a bowling al until brooklyn. so right now it is very difficult to know just how many people whom he may have had contact with. his name, 33 year old craig spencer, a doctor currently being treated in an isolation ward at manhattan's bellevue hospital. he was rushed there today after coming down with 103 fever and diarrhea. spencer was in guinea treating ebola patients with as a physician with the famed doctors without borders mission. preliminary results now show he has tested positive for the virus. new york officials are now retracing his steps to see who he's had contact with. the mayor and the governor began a briefing. it's still going on. here's more of what they had to say.

my generation considers that 26 years of ben bradlee's run and the "washington post" newsroom as our, the most enthusiastic cheerleader and when needed, the best protector of reporter could ask for. there was nothing better than ben coming to your desk and getting a bradlee verbal pat on the back. i can't repeat what he said here. [laughter] in his memoir, ben wrote that he had been given a ringside seat to some of the 20th century's most vital moments and lucky us, we were right there with him. for me and others at the "post" he became more than just our boss. it in 1956, the year's ben hired me from the washington star he heard that and go and i and our three you-month-old son needed a vacation spot. out of the blue he offered us the house he had rented on martha's vineyard over the labor day week because he had to get back to the paper. that started a friendship that only grew over the years. when ben married sally which would make a good movie, in october of 1978 she brought a new sparkle to his life in two hours outside the paper. along with larry stern and others we shared deca
