you just wrapped the last, the third and final season of "the newsroom." how do you feel? >> i feel great. this third season i think is the best of the three by far. i think it took me a while to learn how to write the show. it started to feel good in the third season. >> talk to me about that process. >> i love series television. but the thing about it is that the schedule is ferocious and you have no time. so the worst part about it is that you have to write even when you're not writing well. and then you have to point a camera at it, and then you have to broadcast it to a lot of people. >> "newsroom" has had its share of fanatical fans and also its share of critics. how do you deal with that? >> what i write is not going to be everybody's cup of tea. you learn that pretty early on and you're doing the show for the people who like it. >> the media today is obsessed with ratings, going through major transformation, criticized for being too sensational. what is your perception of traditional and cable news? >> i think that my perception is no more expert than anyone else's

so i'm sure in the average newsroom it's like academia. it's just filled with liberals, and they probably interact very little with conservatives. i said, meanwhile the liberal politicians must interact with conservative politicians. you know, they're stuck together in the house and senate. if they want to get anything done, they have to interact with the other side. so i suggest that they should do that. maybe a couple minor digs at the media. >> host: in what way does a journalist's personal bias effect his writing, and how would that effect the reporting? >> guest: okay, yeah. the key thing, i call it a distortion method of bias that i call -- what i mean is that i don't think that the journalists are lying to us. i don't think they're telling untruths on either side, neither fox news, nor msnbc. by and large, almost everything they say is true. what the bias comes from is what they don't report. it's crimes of omission. that often happens when thinking is the story interesting or not. for instance, a media research center just reported
