i mean, local newsrooms are local news is very troubled. and it it kind of comes down to the thing, the lifeblood that supported newspaper readers for so long was print advertising and print advertising know took a huge hit, basically, the internet came along when craigslist along all of that you can't put that genie back in the bottle. so now have to reinvent ourselves and find other ways of of sustain meaning. you know the cost of hiring reporters and the cost of putting the paper out. and it's hard. i mean, papers are, you know, newsrooms doing it. the globe is actually doing better than most. and it's heartening to see. i mean, what they're doing is emphasizing digital subscriptions, and that is the measure. of one of the biggest measures success right now. how you know what how many digital subscription do you have? and there's a de-emphasis print which doesn't make everybody happy i mean, when i was in buffalo the other day, my hometown, a guy stood up in the question period and told me how he spent. he gave me chapter and verse on ho

and of the woke newsroom. so there's a whole thing going on in newsrooms as you know that younger people, people of color, women are really not too interested in what they see as an outdated idea of objectivity. but then, i have someone like marty baron whose i think very well known in the boston area who in the book makes a very strong defense of objectivity and says it's not what people, it's not the thing people are objecting to, it's approaching a story with anopen mind . without the decision already made about what the story is and looking at evidence and being rigorous and allowing that the drive where it's going but i do think the word has become kind of tainted in certain circles so i like to use other wordsthat don't set everybody off like for example accuracy, fairness . evidence. reporting. all those kinds of things because they don't make you cringe. >> i only cringed as a punctuation point because as researchers where often called the task of objectivity and what that might mean in my research esp

you're watching cnn newsroom. in ukraine, the presidential adviser says that the country's forces have experienced heavy losses in the east. the adviser says that russia has lost more. this comes a day after ukraine's military warned that russia has diverted resources from other areas to the battle for bakhmut. kyiv is described as one of russia's largest missile barrages since the war began more than 10 months ago. the ukrainian defense ministry says that the timing of the missile attack was intentional, but moscow's aim is to force ukrainians to celebrate the new year in the dark and cold. in this latest onslaught, russia appeared to target ukraine's electrical grid, knocking out power in several regions. authorities say that the attacks killed at least three people and wounded seven. the ukrainian military says that shot down 54 of 69 russian missiles along with 16 iranian- made shahed drones. president volodymyr zelensky condemned russia in his address. >> translator: with every rocket attack, russia is gettin
