i'm sara stinson reporting in the newsroom. back to you. >> thank you. to bay area is dealing with the aftermath of a couple of storms that slammed into the region. there have been multiple car crashes, lots of trees coming down. many areas that are still dealing with flooding and sonoma county. one person was injured after their car went down an embankment today and landed upside down. chp says this happened as the driver was heading southbound on 101, in cloverdale. and in fairfield, a student's car stalled out at the community college after they tried driving through the flooded parking lot. officers say the student was able to get out of that car safely. they're reminding drivers to be careful, standing water can be deeper than it appears. and in the south bay, a stretch of highway 9 near saratoga closed tonight because of a mudslide. carans says this weekend's. >> stormy weather caused debris from the hillside to wash onto the highway. the road known as big basin way will be closed in both directions until at least wednesday. and with that, we want

if you have to bring an algorithmic technology to determine whether there's bias in the newsroom. that means you don't trust your journalists or you don't trust your editors or the editorial process. there's several things that are not answered. is this going to apply to, stories that are in the opinion page or in the paper over all. because there is a distinct difference and for people watching understand that. you should expect to see opinions in the opinion section. but in the general section of the paper you expect to see fair and unbalanced coverage. if you're using, when he explained it he said that people could press a button so they could see the story written from the opposite point of view. well that suggests that, for stories that there's only two points of view. and life is often much more complicated than that. so when beat reporters and the body of their coverage what they try to do is present all sides of the story. and there's often not just two sides. there are often many nuances. and you know, there's also a baseline issue alex with ai itself. we understand that

we want to get to some new video into our newsroom just a short time ago from the sacramento area up in carmichael, where they did experience some of the shaking, some people down here in the bay area said they did feel some of that shaking. we spoke to a seismologist from usgs that was down in mountain view. she heard a little bit. she experienced a little bit of the shaking and some people around the bay area told us they also experienced it as well. all right. the usgs is holding another briefing right now. we want to get back to it and listen and see if we can get any updates to the earthquake that struck earlier today. >> the shakealert system operates on the principle of taking about one second of data from the earthquake, and then processing that information and then making an estimate. it's from those estimates. and actually the earthquake is monitored as it progresses. this is what the system does. and the highest estimate that the shakealert system came up with for this event was magnitude 6.9. and so the regions that were alerted for this earthquake correspond really well
