when you were at "newsweek," you floored a project with author peter schweitzer didn't pan out, but do you have an impression of his work? >> he's brought to light important things. congress reacted to his last book in 2011 with a book that dealt with insider trading. and i've been trained that you listen to everyone. i think he's pit on another line this that we've all been very tlar with. access to cash that's been a clinton story line for 20 years. >> that's been a story line about a lot of politicians. >> is there a difference between "the washington post" teaming up with peter schweitzer or teaming up with groups like propublica or groups that have a partisan viewpoint? >> that's a tough one. what our editors have said is that schweitzer's background is a relevant point, but it isn't one that would necessarily exclude us from considering the fact he has put together as a basis for reporting. and that's what the paper did, in a piece we published this week is it essentially took a look at what he had put together and then did our own reporting. i will point out, that was separate f

joining me now newsweek contributor patricia murphy and republican strategist john fury. thank you so much for joining. >> good morning. >> good morning. >> john let's start off with you here. the hits just keep on coming, and now you've got hillary clinton on the ground in new hampshire. republicans deciding to focus heavily on her with jokes and all. how do you score so far, at least that early? >> listen hillary is definitely the leading contender for the democrats, she's the only contender, so you might as well take the shots that you can. president obama's kind of old news you got to focus on the future, and hillary clinton is seen as the past. she's also not been particularly accessible to people outside a very tightly controlled group and i think she's running as the front-runner again. i remember when we were having hillary clinton versus rudy giuliani, how that was going to be the nomination fight last time around. now it's hillary clinton versus probably somebody else in the republican field. she's the front-runner and i think that's a very dangerous place for h

we're talking about a huge "new york times" story, a reuters story, a "newsweek" story, no disclosuresome out and do another press conference and take on all the questions? >> well i think her team is answering, is addressing a lot of the, a lot of these accusations, by saying -- you know reiterating, as you mentioned, that there is -- there has been no evidence that she had anything to do with the approval the main contributor that was cited in "the new york times" times", actually sold a share of the business several years before any of this happened. the guy who wrote -- the author who wrote the "clinton cash" book is a known republican operative, conservative operative. there are a series of things here that call into question what are we really dealing with or is this a nothing burger? that said, there are still -- it does reinforce some of the narratives that are out there, about hillary clinton, that i think something from a campaign and political perspective, she'll need to address down the road. i don't think she needs to overcorrect by immediately responding, because i think
