gordan with "newsweek".i's park speech confirmed the worst fears of china heading in a dangerous direction. what did you mean by that, gordon? >> first of all, he doubled down on everything we didn't want to hear. he emphasized taiwan and his obsession with security. what's really important is what he didn't say. what he didn't talk about were the things that the chinese people wanted to hear, which, for instance, were youth unemployment and the plunging property prices. the reason why that's important, jose, it shows he has no answer to these issues, which means he will focus on finding an enemy for the chinese people to distract them from their problems at home because they know he's responsible for those properties. and that means we're going to find a china that will lash out at the united states. it will be taiwan, india, japan, philippines. it will be somewhere. >> you know, gordon, it's kind of important, and i want your expertise on this, to kind of define and outline what it is that the chinese regi

. >>> joining us is "newsweek" columnist and author of nuclear showdown, north korea takes on the world back. the expectation that what follows this ballistic missile test is a nuclear test. do you agree with that and how would it change the equation? it's been five years since the last one. >> there certainly will be a nuke test. a number of people are saying it will be after china holds its 20th national congress which convenes on the 16th of this month. people are saying maybe november. it very well might not be this year, victor, but it will occur because the north koreans need to do two things. first of all, they need to validate their designs, make sure their designs work. they want to show the world that they can do this. they can very well be saying to the iranians, look, we've got a weapon, it works, we'll set it to you. they need to show it to their customers or i should say potential customers. >> gordon, the u.s. is inviting north korea to engage in dialogue, basically giving them a seat at the table with i think no preconditions. let me play for you how john kirby described

joining me right now is newsweek opiniopinion editor and host ofe josh hammer podcast, josh hammer.f this decision? >> maria, great to be with us as always. i'm a lawyer by training. in law school they teach you the old legal ac a a xion that a grd jury would indict a ham a sandwich. i'm not sure what happened, why john durham can't get anyone to indict someone in this case. i remember being on your show, back in may, to talk about the acquittal of michael sussmann. we've seen the a acquittals of michael sussmann and igor danchenko, the near probation of kevin clinesmith, a relatively low level fbi attorney, that happened about two years ago or so, august of 2020 if i have the date correct. at this point it appears that john durham probably doesn't necessarily have any more aces up his sleeve. i would like to be proven wrong. my best read on the situation and it is a very unfortunate one is at this point, at this point the best remedy that we can hope for to actually see justice is not going to happen legally. it's going to have to happen politically. john durham, if you look at his
