declared against him in a case brought by the parents of little kids who were murdered at sandy hook in newtown, connecticut, in 2012. alex jones made his money for a long while selling this fantasy to his followers that the sandy hook massacre was faked and the kids didn't really die. the lawsuits against him by the parents of those kids may very well have bankrupt him and shut down his media and supplement-hawking company. a jury will decide what to do with him in that case in terms of financial penalties. but he and roger stone and three other people are all now subpoenaed as of tonight to bu testify and hand over documents about their role in the january 6th attack on the capitol. we will see if president -- former president trump tells them not to respond to those subpoenas, tells them to defy those subpoenas as he's encouraged others to do. we're going to have reporter david fahrenthold here a little later on this hour. pulitzer prize-winning reporter for the "washington post." mr. fahrenthold actually had two different scoops today in the "post." one about the contours of the new case, t

newtown, and the first responders dealing with anything like this, the most innocent collection of the of victims. there are children who are hospitalized. the victims were seniors. these were families. what is sort of the process and the impact on law enforcement and first responders, clint? >> it's going to be quite traumatic for them. the other part of it was this was not like we oftentimes see in terrorist attacks a soft target. it was hard in the sense that law enforcement were there and tried to stop with barricades and tried to enter dikt this. for them they have to deal with the consequences of having to observe this, also having to respond to it and also having to watch it come right into them at the same point. some of the first videos where the barricades were at are sad and frightening. you feel for the law enforcement there. they detected it. saw it coming, sent warnings, did all the right thing. but it didn't stop the loss of life. it will be tough for them to process it. it is a local community, a local police force. everyone did the right thing. you could see in the vid

terrorists -- >> a church in south carolina, a synagogue in pennsylvania, a school, parkland, a school newtown. has there been threats and violence in schools in the united states of america coming from what types of groups? >> they come from domestic groups. >> has there been a long, pages long list of what my staff could grab, threats and violence against school officials in the united states of america in the last year? >> i haven't seen the list. but it accords with my -- >> let me show you the letter that i've heard so much about that i pulled it to read it. you say literally threats -- excuse me, spirited debate about policy matters is protected under the constitution. i'm quoting one of my colleagues today. does that sound like harassing and intimidating moms and dads? do you affirm at the top of your letter that spirited debate is allowed? spirited debate about policy matters is protected under the constitution, that protection does not extend to threats and to violence that we have been watching on our tv screens. intimidating people, threatening to hurt them, taking physical action.

newtown, connecticut, will never be the same after what happened there now almost a decade ago. reports are that at oxford high school, nearly 100 911 messages came in to police during the time of the shooting. it gives you a vision into the terror that happens inside a school when a classmate opens fire. i think about this first and foremost as a parent of a 7th grader and a 4th grader that are part of a generation that accepts as part of their childhood the risk of not leaving school at the end of the day because of a violent attack. that's the reality of being a kid in school today. i'm angry about it as an american, but i'm angry about it as a parent that my children have to go through active shooter drills because this has become a regular facet of being a child in america, exposure to gun violence. it sickens me to think that my 4th grader has to worry about this when he goes to school every day. mr. president, i understand that my republican colleagues have very strong views on issues related to abortion, but i listened to my republican colleagues come down here one after
