does the ngo then step in and pay for teachers? and it is this vacuum that we're trying to feel in some ways. but at the same time it is not our role to fill. the international aid community, in particular the international nonprofit community, is not the government of haiti. we can't go in and pay for teachers over time. ultimately, it requires a partnership. and it requires the ability of the haitian people themselves to stand up and that will take time. there will be people in camps a year from now and over the next ten years, many of the organizations that are part of interaction will be there. and i think the best way to get a sense of the diversity and direction of our community is we've recently prepared a map, it's called the haiti aid map. you can see it on our website at interaction.org. it lifts where, i think it's about 67 different ngos and 500 projects around the country. it gives you a sense of who is doing what, where. that is just our piece. and will take many other pieces to make this all come together. thank you.

so here is a cliche that you often hear in the ngo community.here's a cliche that, as much as any, is as hollywood as anything i've ever seen and should be given its final coffin now. don't give them fish, teach them to fish. what fish? what school? what building inspector? what building code? what materials? of course, we have to support haiti with training, parallel training. but that can also be the smokescreen that teach them to fish, the smokescreen that leaves hundreds of thousands of vulnerable and unsanitary camps through next year's hurricane season. we've got to put the fish there. the time for action is now. one year after the earthquake we're facing challenges with donors on issues like camp management. i'm hearing every day that more and more ngos are relieving themselves of the role of camp manager because the funding is drying up for those activities or because the job's just too hard and they no longer want to be in such a difficult position. camp management f, for the reco, is not about keeping people in the camps but about help

and we're working with an ngo to identify sites in many major cities where we can have them construct facilities, locker rooms and some indoor space too because that is basically to be frank the only place can play sports safely in afghanistan. so volleyball courts, basketball courts that can be used by either gender are a really valuable thing and we're going to try to do that at least several if not five or six major cities as one of our key projects. also as an old tv guy, i kind of believe in sports broadcasting. and in sports as a unifying factors. so we're working to get sports broadcasting trucks built that are suitable for the afghan market. they have to be rugged. they have to be not too complex. but equipment that will allow afghans to watch afghan teams playing each other live on television with instant replay and the whole deal. and i hope create some excitement. i know that in other countries, this model -- you know, tv comes first and then pretty soon the banks want their names on the t-shirts and so forth. it could become a sustainable model and it's worth a try and obv
